Alicia Witt Teases Her Supernatural Role — As an Old Foe of [Spoiler]'s

Castiel is about to get an unwelcome blast from the past on Supernatural.

Alicia Witt will be appearing on an upcoming episode of The CW’s demon-hunter drama, TVLine has confirmed. The actress announced the news herself on Tuesday via Twitter:

Witt says she’s been in Vancouver filming her role on the show, and is tight-lipped about her character, except to say that she “has a relationship with Castiel.” Witt quickly followed up to say that she “did not specify what *kind* of relationship” her character has with Cas, but TVLine has since confirmed that Witt’s character is named Lily Sunder, and she’s an old enemy of Castiel’s.

Witt had a memorable appearance on The Walking Dead last season as villainous survivor Paula; in fact, she had to cancel an appearance at Atlanta’s Walker Stalker Con to shoot her Supernatural role. She’s also had recurring roles on ABC’s Nashville and FX’s Justified in recent years, and she’s set to reprise her role as Gersten Hayward in Showtime’s upcoming Twin Peaks revival.

Hit the comments and chime in, Supernatural fans: Who is Lily Sunder, and why are she and Castiel sworn enemies?

  1. Rick says:

Well, color me intrigued! I love Alicia Witt, and I really love Castiel, so I’m all ears. Any word on which episode this will be? I know we’re getting some more backstory about Cas this season (probably partially due to Misha’s recent promotion/bump up on credits with “and Misha Collins”!), so I’m wondering if Lily fits into that somehow.

Either way, I can’t wait. I’m all for more exploration of Cas and the people he’s know pre- and post-Winchesters.

  2. Elle says:

oooooh! okay, I’m v excited. Alicia is a great actress – can’t wait to see her opposite my favorite angel. \o/

  3. Bobby says:

    1. anything for more Castiel, loving this season so far!
    2. Lily Sunder is a great name, j’approve.
    3. I dig that Dabb is giving us a lot more personal look at all our central characters, especially Team Free Will.

  4. Alicia has been a long time fave of mine, since I first saw Urban Legend back in ’98 and of course Supernatural is personal fave of mine, plus we’re getting background into Castiel’s past, so this is a win on all fronts. so exicted for her role

  5. Aren’t we going to get origins about Cas this season as well? I smell an old old old enemy here. Pre Winchester era.

  6. dean says:

I like her a lot. This gives me hope the rest of the season will be better than the first 2 eps.

  7. Rain says:

Ugh, one of my least favorite actresses. Hope they actually mean only 1 episode!

  8. HAP says:

Wow. Does time fly. Hard to believe that it has been 18 years since she played Cybill Shepherd’s daughter.

    • Ann says:

The first time I saw her was when she played that creepy kid in the movie, Dune. Growing up in the Boston area, where she grew up (and Misha Collins), I remember reading an article in a local paper stating she was also a musical child prodigy. Multi talented woman.
