The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Ratings: Rocky Horror Improves Fox's Thursday, But Is No Grease: Live

Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show remake on Thursday drew 5 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating (per finals), more than doubling the Rosewood/Pitch combo’s most recent performance yet falling well shy of Grease: Live‘s January numbers (12.2 mil/4.3).

Among TV’s recent musical spectacles, Rocky came closest to NBC’s Peter Pan Live, which did 9.2 mil and a 2.4 in December 2014. TVLine readers gave the Laverne Cox-fronted production an average grade of “C.”

Elsewhere on the night….

ABC | Grey’s Anatomy (8.1 mil/2.1) was steady, while Notorious (4 mil/0.9) and HTGAWM (4.3 mil/1.2) are each currently up a tenth.

THE CW | Legends (1.8 mil/0.7) ticked up, while Supernatural (1.6 mil/0.6) fell 25 percent.

NBC | Superstore (4.2 mil/1.0) and The Good Place (3.8 mil/1.o) each slipped two tenths, Chicago Med (6.6 mil/1.2) dipped a tenth and The Blacklist (5.3 mil/1.1) was steady.

CBS | Thursday Night Football (14.2 mil/4.5) was on par with last week’s finals.

Hope next week’s Blacklist episode should be the end of the Red vs. Kirk rivalry.

  2. Ninamags says:

Yikes! Maybe Supernatural will go up in viewers again once Sam and Dean start their regular, weekly, monster-of-the-week hunts.

  3. Saynay says:

Rocky Horror is a hard sell. You’re either into it or you aren’t. Plus it’s not exactly family friendly, so I’m not surprised to see the ratings below Grease or NBC’s live shows.

Sad to see The Good Place drop.

They’re also comparing something that aired right in the middle of the fall season in October with shows that aired in December and January when there’s much less competition. Although it might have done a bit better had it aired next weekend just before Halloween when people are inclined to watch it at parties. In fact I suspect many recorded it to watch on Halloween.

      • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

…and yet TV viewing levels are famously markedly lower in December/January, so…. It’s a wash. (That said, no one expected RHPS to match Grease, but a comparison still needs to be made, if only because same network.)

        • eddie says:

Well grease aired on a sunday and horror aired on a thursday which is famously a bad day for fox ratings wise. Should of aired a different day.

  4. "A" says:

    Way to stay steady Legends.

  5. kmw says:

FOX isn’t going to be unhappy with those results especially compared to their normal Thursdays but it must be a little disappointing. Actually given that their was a baseball and football game on most shows did ok

  6. Bonesfan47 says:

Fox should have just aired Bones on Thursdays this fall like they were supposed to I’m sure the ratings would have been a lot better than what Pitch and Rosewood have been currently doing.

  7. Voice of Reason says:

I could see that, its a cult favorite, meaning that its not going to be appeal to everybody and is going to be very niche-y. That, and it seems like whenever somebody talks about making an updated version the fans all freak out it seems.

    Want Notorious to come return
