American Crime: 24 Vet Cherry Jones Joins Season 3 Cast

ABC’s American Crime is adding another Emmy winner to its cast: Cherry Jones will join the acclaimed drama for the upcoming Season 3.

The 24 veteran will play the matriarch of a family-owned agricultural company, according to our sister site Variety, who first broke the news. Her role is recurring, and she joins Crime regulars Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, and Regina King (who just won her second Emmy for Crime) in the Season 3 cast.

Jones won her Emmy in 2009 for playing female President Allison Taylor in Season 7 of the Fox thriller 24. She’s also currently co-starring on Amazon’s Transparent as professor/poet Leslie Mackinaw. (And oh, by the way, she’s a five-time Tony nominee.)

American Crime‘s story and characters change each season, but we already know Season 3 will be set in North Carolina and will focus on “labor issues, economic divides and individual rights,” per executive producer John Ridley.

Season 3 of American Crime is set for eight episodes, and will air on ABC sometime next year.

Does the addition of Cherry Jones make a great cast even greater? And who will the other actors play in Season 3? Hit the comments and start theorizing.

    • The description of any season of THE WIRE could also be made to sound boring, but it was one of the best shows American television has ever produced, season to season.

The creators of AMERICAN CRIME have won my trust twice now.

    • Gene says:

An in-depth exploration of “labor issues, economic divides and individual rights” sounds “boring”? Would you rather have another reality show or remake of a 1980’s series fill the slot?

    *Two time Tony winner.

  2. Hipper says:

i’m surprised this series made it this far on network TV. the premise of the entire show is normally balked at on networks. Seeing how it’s reached its third season shows at least one broadcast network is willing to give quality non-13/22 episode shows a chance.

    • genehoke says:

This show is a masterpiece. One of the few truly daring series on broadcast television right now. Brilliant writing, direction, and acting. It’s in the same class as any of the great cable series of the last few years with regard to quality.

  3. Karen Herman says:

I’ve loved American Crime from the start, although I preferred the Season 1 story. The issues to be addressed in Season 3 sound really interesting, and I have no doubt will make for a riveting new season. The cast is fantastic and can only be enhanced by the addition of Cherry Jones. I so wish there were more serious dramas like this on TV. Can’t wait for Season 3!
