Fargo: Mary Elizabeth Winstead Joins Season 3 Cast as 'Crafty Parolee'

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Fargo-bound.

The BrainDead actress is joining the Emmy-winning FX anthology’s upcoming third season in a series-regular role, TVLine has learned. She will play Nikki Swango, a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing. Nikki is a woman with a plan, focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents.

Winstead will star alongside the previously cast Ewan McGregor and Carrie Coon.

Said to be set closer to the present than Seasons 1 and 2 were, Season 3 focuses on a pair of lookalike brothers, both played by McGregor. The older of the two, Emmit Stussy is a good-looking, self-assured real estate magnate — aka the Parking Lot King of Minnesota. His younger bro, Ray, is a flabby parole officer who believes that Emmit is somehow responsible for his sorry state of affairs. Coon plays Gloria, the chief of the Eden Valley police.

Production is tentatively scheduled to begin later this year, with new episodes dropping in 2017.

Loved season 1 but jumped season 2 was too old style for me! but now with MEW on the cast I am totally back for s3 because the writing and acting has been of a high calibre now I feel it will be even better…

She sure is one busy lady. Mercy Street, BrainDead, and now Fargo (plus several films – she seems to have an eye for successful projects). I wish I had her stamina…and maybe a smidgen of her talent.

  9. I loved her in “The Beauty Inside.” I wanted her to end up with Matthew Gray Gubler’s character.
    Can’t wait

She is an awesome talent. I guess this is sort of a tip off that Braindead won’t be renewed.

not really since they would film on a different schedule but it’s likely Braindead is braindead as a series.. Too bad as I would have loved to see the bugs take over NYC next!! Probably in the heads of network execs who don’t know how to program TV networks!!
