Kerry Washington ABC Pilot

Kerry Washington Developing Female LAPD Cops Drama for ABC

Scandal star Kerry Washington is now also on Patrol for ABC, developing a new drama about LAPD cops.

Per our sister site Variety, the series will follow four female LAPD officers who, five years after attending the police academy together, go to work for a man named Charlie are forced to reconnect by a secret from their past.

Patrol marks the second project (following HBO’s Confirmation) to come from Washington’s Simpson Street production company.

Chitra Sampath (Secrets and Lies) will pen the pilot and serve as a co-EP, while Washington will executive-produce alongside her producing partner Sharla Sumpter Bridgett, plus Michael London and Janice Williams.

Washington’s Scandal is due to premiere Season 6 in January 2017.

No interest in another network TV cop drama. Let alone one likely to be Shonda-afied (melodrama, love triangles, and other soapy tropes).
Southland was amazing and it got cancelled/moved then cancelled again. Yet cop shows like Chicago PD stay on TV and thrive. PASS.

I’m not against cop shows per sey, just against police procedurals. I’ll watch a cop show if there’s more serial aspects. I loved Rookie Blue for example. I also liked Chicago PD until they started doing all those crossovers and since I don’t watch the other Chicago shows it was annoying as heck. If Patrol has more serialized storytelling I will give it a chance.

You need to check out the show Motive. It very different than just about every other cop show out there. You meet the victim and the killer at the very start, then you see the aftermath as the investigation starts and then as things are learned by the investigators, we also see flashbacks to what led up to the homicide.

I’m intrigued. Her production company’s first effort, “Confirmation”, was great.

Cool! I’ll definitely check it out.

    Does ANYONE remember “Charlies Angels”????

  7. Jonnythec says:

We don’t need anymore cop, hospital and lawyer shows. When will these idiots at the networks realize that the only shows people are watching or talking about are cable shows. The game of thrones, breaking bad , walking dead type shows that are original. Until the networks are bled of the idiots in charge, they will keep losing viewers and awards to cable networks. Geez people, this isn’t rocket surgery.

  8. BillUSA says:

Another woman-centered series which will get cancelled and the cry against sexism will reawaken.

  9. Lucifer says:

Pretty Little Liars, but with adult cops.
