Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Casts Matt Cohen as Jack's Son — Plus 3 Other Supernatural Visitors

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders will look a lot like Supernatural next season.

Matt Cohen— who played Young John Winchester on the aforementioned CW series — will recur during Season 2 of the CBS drama as IRU team leader Jack Garrett’s son Ryan, TVLine has learned.

Ryan is following in his father’s footsteps by becoming a top agent for the FBI. Cohen — who currently stars on General Hospital — makes his debut in the season premiere, airing midseason.

Additionally, Beyond Borders has tapped a trio of Supernatural alums to guest-star: Osric Chau (Supernatural‘s Kevin) plays a mysterious figure in Singapore known as “Gui,” which translates to “Ghost,” in Episode 3, while Rob Benedict (Chuck/God) and Richard Speight Jr. (Gabriel) appear in Episode 5 as life-long friends and budding American entrepreneurs who go to Bangladesh to close a deal for their new clothing company.

Beyond Borders executive producer Adam Glass, a former writer/EP on Supernatural, mentioned the castings on Twitter:

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

  1. Vivian Deck says:

Supernatural has the best actors as a whole of any TV series. Jim Beaver/Bobby has appeared in all kinds of other tv series. And just look at Mark Sheppard, he has been in everything for years. That is just a few. Looks like the other networks and shows have finally discovered these hidden gems. Way to go Supernatural

I can’t believe this show got renewed and Limitless didn’t. Boo hoo! Still crying over Limitless.

  3. Jimmy says:

Hopefully Matt Cohen joins Beyond Borders full time and that will get him off General Hospital. I don’t like him as an actor and the character of Griffin is a snooze fest.

    • Phil says:

      Like Griffin!

    • Dundee says:

I’m with you on not liking him as an actor. I watched him on South of Nowhere, and Boogeyman 2, various single guest appearances, and on Supernatural. Unfortunately, he just doesn’t ever seem to grow as an actor. All of his characters get played the same and it’s really boring to watch.

  4. Stephanie says:

I can’t wait to see these actors again! Tapping the talents from Supernatural is a great move!

  5. Pat says:

Adam Glass, I am happy that you are bringing these actors onboard and just know that hands off Jared and Jensen, just in case you have anything clicking in your mind about either one of them! 😁 I am a fan of Supernatural and I also, watch Crimanal Minds, Beyond Borders.

  6. liame says:

This show was renewed? I can’t even, what a waste of money.

    • KLS says:

CM:BB barely survived season 1. It might be because of Gary Sinese, but more likely because CBS kept the original CM as well. With the upheaval at CM, it seems like CBS is making an effort to save this show (the spin-off) by throwing money and new hires at it. We’ll see.

    • mary says:

Why? Just because you don’t like it?

  7. Phil says:

Here’s hoping Cohen remains at GH while he is doing this! I like Griffin and he plays well off of Finola Hughes’s Anna Devane!

  8. ninamags says:

The casting people at Supernatural are top notch.

There have been so, so many people that were on the show during the early seasons and have gone on to have a higher profile.

The actor from Hamilton, Sara Shahi, the guy siren was on Suicide Squad for goodness sake!!!
Can’t get more high profile than that!

Cool. I’v watched some episodes but I’ll be sure to tune in when these guys appear.

  9. Kimberly Martin says:

Matt Cohen is on the soap opera General Hospital as Griffin Munro who is a doctor and as priest
