Marvel's Runaways Gets Hulu Pilot Order, From Gossip Girl Creators

The Runaways are making a sprint for Hulu.

Marvel’s comic book series about a disparate group of teenagers who discover that their respective parents are part of a crime organization known as “The Pride” has received a pilot order at Hulu, our sister site Deadline reports.

Upon realizing that their parents’ annual “charity” gathering is in fact a meeting of nefarious time-travelers, wizards, mad scientists, aliens and mutants, the teens band together to use their own, newly realized powers to vanquish The Pride and fend off any other threats. Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona cocreated the title.

Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are on board to serve as showrunners.

“We’ve known the Runaways‘ story would make great television,” Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb said in a statement, “and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie — who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience — write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable.”

Guess the movie didn’t pan out. But Hulu? No thanks

  3. Jeremy Thatcher says:

Whatever happened to Josh Schwartz’s remake of Misfits?

  4. Wordsmith says:

Very cool. I wonder if it will be connected to the MCU or the X-Men cinematic universes. As I recall, the comic had random ties to many different established characters.

  5. Sounds good! I think when Josh and Stephanie work well together, they made incredible TV. Also, they definitely know how to speak to a teen audience in a authentic way.

  6. justsomeguy says:

This won’t save Hulu. It’s a sinking ship.

  7. Shaun says:

Gossip Girl show runners for a Marvel project?Ew!

    • Wordsmith says:

Also the EPs of Chuck and Cult, so it’s not that far out of their wheelhouse.
And, to be fair, Runaways probably has more in common with Gossip Girl or The O.C. than it does with the Avengers.
I think it’s actually a pretty ideal union of story and storytellers.

  8. Joey Padron says:

Good news there will be a Marvel show on Hulu! Looking forward to check out the show!

  9. J says:

Are they allowed to use Mutants? Or will Molly be turned into a crappy Inhuman?

  10. blankmixtape says:

I love Runaways but I don’t feel too confident that the show runners aren’t going to do the comics justice.

  11. Jim says:

Yeeeeeeeeesssssss about time! Marvel’s really been neglecting this property recently and it’s such a no-brainer for an adaptation, it will be a huge success.
