Ballers Renewed for Season 3 at HBO

It’s touchdown/gooooooal!/nothin’ but net/[insert your favorite sports metaphor here] for Ballers which has just nabbed a renewal at HBO.

Two episodes into Season 2, the premium cabler has re-upped its sports comedy for a third go-around, star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced Thursday via Instagram.

“To all our baller fans out there — THANK YOU!” he wrote in the post. “Millions of you tune in every week to join us on this crazy journey of chasin’ greatness and dealin’ with life’s pain… and the greatest compliment we always hear from you is that we’re real and authentic. Means the world considering how close this character is to my bones.”

“Dwayne Johnson, [executive producers] Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and the rest of the Ballers team have once again delivered a winner for our viewers,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said via statement. “We look forward to another great season of Ballers next year.”

Ballers premiered earlier this month to 1.6 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating, on par with its freshman run and placing second for the night only to the season opener of Starz’s Power (among scripted originals). In Week 2, it slipped to 1.3 mil and a 0.6.

I’m happy. I love this show. I hope this show stays renew. I hope this show doesn’t fall prey to HBO’s habit of renewing a show and then turn around and decides to do a 180.

    • Dysturbed says:

They’ve prematurely cancelled a few shows prior to renewing them, but I think the only shows they did the 180 with after renewing them with were The Brink and Vinyl, both of which were in their first season and got premature renewals in order to make people think “this show is doing well so I might as well check it out.” That didn’t work as ratings never got better.

Since Ballers is in it’s second season, it’s fanbase is pretty established at this point so they are unlikely to go that route and change their minds.

Love the show, but how in the world was “The Brink” cancelled for a show like ‘Vice Prinicipals’. Who makes this decisions. The combo of Ballers and the Brink were my favorite turn to shows after the GoT is over.

  4. I love Ballers. When will the new season start?

Great show I just watched all 2 seasons back to back over the weekend. Can’t wait for some more…
