Amy Acker MacGyver

Amy Acker Spies MacGyver Role

Amy Acker will play a person of interest when CBS’ MacGyver reboot premieres this fall.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the Person of Interest alum will guest-star in the freshman drama’s second episode as a CIA operative who was working undercover in Caracas, gathering intel on an international arms dealer, when his organization kidnapped her.

MacGyver (played by Lucas Till) and former CIA agent Jack Dalton (CSI‘s George Eads) are tasked with bringing Acker’s agent home, all as Jack grapples with long-unresolved feelings for his onetime colleague.

MacGyver premieres Friday, Sept. 23 at 8/7c, leading into Hawaii Five-0.

Prior to her run as POI‘s Root, Acker’s TV credits included CSI, Dollhouse, No Ordinary Family, Happy Town, Alias and of course Angel.

  1. Shaun says:

    Don’t do it!!!

  2. kelly says:

Yasss I’m going to watch that episode for her! I just hope she won’t get killed off this time, okay?

  3. Rahajicho says:

Amy, please go on a show I’ll actually watch.

    • Greg Kubas says:

Please please hold off on another series in the (sadly unlikely) event that a POI spinoff will be made. Such a glam photo of her stunningly symmetric face at the top of this story! Of course I will watch anything she is in, but be a star!!

      • kelly says:

        What POI spin-off?
The only possible spin-of could be about the Machine in the Ghost in the shell-like future.

50-60 years in the future. The Machine still is nothing like human but she uses the personality of a woman who died a long time ago. She has a synthetic body and its designed to look like Root, because The Machine still loves Samantha Groves and will never let her go.
The Machine still sees everything, she fights for all people and AI lives with the group of her loyal followers and then BOOM! The new enemy rises. And he’s actually not new, he’s old. It’s Samaritan!

      • KLS says:

        There’s going to be a spin-off?

  4. ackeros says:

At least it’s a cool role (CIA operative). Love when Amy is cast in action/genre roles/shows, it’s her thing. I’m glad this is (hopefully?) a one time thing, though.

    • kelly says:

The original MacGyver wasn’t that bad maybe the reboot will be just as okay or hopefully decent. But yeah I’d like to see her in some badass leading role in a genre show someday.

      • ackeros says:

I very much doubt that. Either way, like others have mentioned, Amy Acker deserves much better than to be resorted to the “love interest who needs to be rescued” part. I hope there is something better for her in the horizon.

        • kelly says:

I understood the description more like “a CIA agent who’s in trouble that’s why she needs to be rescued.”
And she also happens to be Nick’s love interest-ish. Because who wouldn’t fall in love with Acker? WHO? She’s so beautiful and stuff.

  5. nevecomcafe says:

Sad that roles available for an actress of Acker’s caliber is of the love interest who needs to be rescued.
Give the woman her own show!

  6. HAP says:

Such a fine actress. She does need to headline her own show. Hear that Hollywood?

  7. Josh says:

I’m glad this is just a guest appearance, because this show is almost certainly going to be terrible and she deserves much better.

    • KLS says:

This show is getting so many bad vibes before it even airs I can’t wait to see it! (sarcastically). I may tune in to catch Acker though, maybe that’s why they hired her.

  8. Kevin K says:

Now that Amy Acker is guest starring in the 2nd episode of the MacGyver remake I have a feeling that it won’t last that long.

    • kelly says:

Won’t last that long.. Welp, let’s see:

She guest starred on season 1 of Grimm – the show is still on air. She guest starred on season 1 of OUAT – the show is still on air. She guest starred on season 1 of Agents of Shield.. should I continue?

She’s sort of a good-luck charm if the show is done right.

POI got canceled only because CBS loves money too much.

      • Blue meanie says:

POI got cancelled because Jonah was planning on killing off her character. The cancellation was inevitable. Look for yourself

Angel. Joss kills off Fred. Angel is cancelled.
Dollhouse. Joss kills off Whiskey in the future, Joss kills off Dr.Saunders replacing with Clyde. Dollhouse is cancelled.
Person of interest. Jonah is planning on killing off Root no matter what. He would’ve killed her anyway. The show is cancelled.

On Happy Town and Drive she was playing a damsel in distress/wife, so it’s no wonder the shows are no longer on air. You can’t just humiliate Illyria like this.

    • ackeros says:

Think you’re confusing her with Summer Glau.

  9. Piers says:

    Cool. Love her.

  10. Doug says:

Now, if they had made Amy the new McGyver instead of the off-putting Lucas Till, I wood have watched that show.

    • kelly says:

She would make a fantastic The Pretender if there’s ever going to be the reboot of that show. She’s so much better at pretending to be different people than T.Weiss to be honest.

      • ferreax says:

She would be a wonderful Miss Parker too, in a The Pretender reboot. Anyway she deserves a leading role, she’s too talented to be only a guest star.

  11. todd says:

    Jack Dalton cia? That’s laughable.

  12. Agent 86 says:

Nooooo. Amy Acker deserves so much better.

This reminds me of Lucy Lawless’ stints on Tarzan, No Ordinary Family, The L Word, CSI, Locusts, Vampire Bats, Two and a Half Men and …. Celebrity Duets! You can do better Amy Acker, so very much better. And if you can’t because of Hollywood’s stupidity, then shame on you Hollywood – shame, shame, shame!

  13. The Carpooler says:

I will watch this episode just to watch her.

  14. HAP says:

If you have never seen Joss Whedon’s sort of homemade, backyard version of Much Ado About Nothing, you need to. Amy owned the movie.

  15. Brenno says:

    Illyria <3

  16. Root Cavalry says:

So long as she doesn’t humiliate herself doing 2 Broke Girls or Mom!
Would love her as recurring character on Madam Secretary or The Blacklist opposite James Spader.
