Power Season 3 Preview

Ratings: Power Season 3 Premiere Sets Record for Starz, Besting Outlander

Power lived up to its name Sunday, with a Season 3 premiere that set a new all-time high in viewers for the premium cable network.

The crime drama’s season opener — which, as part of a previously announced scheduling shift, is the first of Starz’s original series to air on a Sunday — nabbed 2.26 million live + same day viewers, up 55 percent from the previous record holder, Outlander‘s Season 2 premiere, which grabbed 1.46 million pairs of eyes.

The episode, titled “Call Me James,” also brought in 58 percent more viewers than Power‘s Season 2 premiere (1.43 mil) and 47 percent more than its Season 2 finale (1.54 mil).

“We are thrilled Power continues to be a force in its third season with this record-setting performance —something very few shows ever achieve. We are proud to say the show is must-watch TV and has helped to establish STARZ as a Sunday destination for viewers,” Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement.

In May, Starz announced that it would move its series to Sundays to compete with other networks’ signature dramas, including Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.

    Well deserved.

  2. LT says:

    Love this show!

  3. Ian says:

Im actually kind of upset about this. This premiere was actually one of the weaker Power episodes I felt, and those ratings are of no bearing on Outlander’s quality. Power just appeals to a greater audience I guess.

    • Kash says:

Your upset because you “felt” the episode was weak? Lol so that means people shouldn’t have watched. Yeah? Or u just upset because it beat Outlander which the media thorn all over?

      • Vanessa says:

LOL. It’s clearly the latter. Power isn’t nearly as great as the big fans are making it out to be, but Outlander fans have this really high level of arrogance, entitlement, and defensiveness in relation to the show so if any show gets praise or higher ratings or noms “over” Outlander (which also isn’t nearly as good as the big fans make it out to be) they get whiny and look for reasons to criticize.

        • CHRISTY says:

I’m an outlander fan but I’m thrilled when any show on starz does well! Means a larger possible viewership for my fav show! Go starz!

  4. Mike C. says:

    Amazing, spectacular show. A must-watch!!!!!

  5. flowerduh says:

    Great show!

  6. Lynn says:

It’s not exactly competing with GOT or Walking Dead since neither of them were on. GOT won’t even be on for probably another year. It’s summer, not much on and not much competition. I’ve never watched it so nothing against the show but just saying.

    • Kash says:

Why exactly are you searching for excuses to downplay the shows ratings? Preacher, The Night Of, Ray Donovan, The Kardashians, Basketball Wives, The Last Ship were all on at the same time. So let’s not act like there wasn’t plenty of other option of stuff for people to watch just because Game Of Thrones & TWD wasn’t on. Lol

  7. sladewilson says:

Power is no joke. It’s becoming one of the best shows on TV right now. Definitely a can’t miss show. The season 3 premiere was a definite slow burn but you already can tell it’s leading to some major heat….

  8. Tonya G says:

Holly is working for Lobos. Lobos is going after Ghost full throttle. Stern wants his clubs back and begins to use Josh again however, Ghost is a quick study and is a step ahead of Stern, fires Josh. Tommy and Ghost will talk but Tommy is power drunk and do not want to give up his number one spot plus having Holly in his ear. Therefore, still a rift between Ghost and Tommy. As much as Ghost wants to get out of the game, it continues to draw him back in. Angela and Tasha will confront one another, Tasha underestimates Angela. Kanan was craving revenge on Ghost before now he has this monkey on his back so strong like an addiction. Dre is going to end up dead, because he is in the middle of Ghost and Kanan. Greg is determined to prove he is innocent/not a liar, will continue to come for Ghost and Angela with everything he has. Sandoval will be another casualty such as Dre then Saxe, will become Angelas’ new boss.

  9. Clearly, a lot of people were looking forward to the premiere.
I know I was. I liked the episode. Angie can still fall of a cliff though.
