Walking Dead: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Plus 3 Others Promoted to Series Regular

Negan’s going to be extra cocky now.

The Walking Dead has promoted the bat-wielding baddie’s portrayer, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, to a full-fledged series regular ahead of Season 7, TVLine has confirmed. The AMC smash has also upped Tom Payne (Team Rick’s Jesus), Austin Amelio (Team Savior’s Dwight) and Xander Berkeley (Team Hilltop’s Gregory) to the regular ranks. All four joined the show in Season 6 as recurring guest stars.

The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news of the quartet’s status change, notes that The Walking Dead will now enter Season 7 with a record 20 series regulars, although that number will quickly drop down to 19 once Negan’s victim is identified.

For those keeping track at home, those regulars are: Andrew Lincoln (Rick), Norman Reedus (Daryl), Steven Yeun (Glenn), Lauren Cohan (Maggie), Chandler Riggs (Carl), Danai Gurira (Michonne), Melissa McBride (Carol), Michael Cudlitz (Abraham), Lennie James (Morgan), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), Alanna Masterson (Tara), Christian Serratos (Rosita), Josh McDermitt (Eugene), Seth Gilliam (Father Gabriel), Ross Marquand (Aaron), Austin Nichols (Spencer) and the newly-promoted Morgan, Payne, Amelio and Berkeley.

    Can’t wait for Season 7.

  2. wrstlgirl says:

None of these surprise me. Very excited.

  3. Blake says:

As long as it is not Aaron, really do not need this to be a one in – one out scenario, plus Aaron’s death would be the least impactful, given how little screen time he has gotten compared to the other potential Negan victim candidates.

    • Bwhit says:

It kind of already is a one in-one out situation because Negan will be killing one of those regulars and JDM is now a regular.

    • bmg314 says:

It is Aaron. Just accept it and hope the show and it’s writing recovers to become really good again.

  4. Jax&Juice's Girl says:

Yay for Jesus! The other 3 don’t care……already know Negan will raise a lot of hell btw S7 and beyond. Anyways I can’t wait to see the trailer and the premiere date release!!!

  5. Joe says:

Soon to be 19 after the premiere

  6. Curly Girly says:

How can an actor be considered a “regular” if they are only in one episode; we all know one of those isn’t making it past the season 7 premiere!!

  7. Carol_R says:

I didn’t like much of last season so I’m not sure that I’ll bother with the show anymore. I’m not interested in that other settlement or Negan. I really like Xander Berkely and Jeffery Dean Morgan as actors but their characters don’t interest me.

  8. Ella says:

Guess we’ll have to wait yet another season to see JDM back on Supernatural…
