American Crime Season 3 Casts Regina King

American Crime Books Regina King for North Carolina-Set Season 3

Though American Crime will have (as always) a new setting, new characters and a new plot in its upcoming third season, one thing will remain blessedly the same: ABC’s anthology series will star Regina King, our sister site Deadline reports.

“We could not be more excited to welcome Regina back for a third season,” creator John Ridley said in a statement to the website. “She is among the talent who have quickly become intimately associated with the program.

“As with the first two seasons, her many fans can expect a total transformation,” he added, “as she plays one of the complicated individuals caught up in a story that deals with labor issues, economic divides and individual rights in this season’s setting of North Carolina.” (In spite of the designated locale, the show will shoot in Los Angeles, where production has been moved from Texas.)

Thus far, only King — an Emmy winner for Season 1 — has signed on for Season 3. However, American Crime regulars Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton are also expected to return in new roles.

    Yay!

  2. Sandy Duncan's Eye on Network TV says:

She also deserves an emmy for last season’s The Leftovers. She is so good.

    No news on the theme?

The article says “a story that deals with labor issues, economic divides and individual rights.” So I’m guessing the season will having something to do with rich vs poor (maybe something along the lines of the movie “Norma Rae”) and the individual rights might have something to do with the LGBT legislation NC passed not long ago.

So…The same themes as previous years… Season 2 started off great, and then it fell flat on its face the moment they changed the story from being about male rape to justifying a school shooting, because they had set up the story by making the victim a sympathetic character knowing full well they would make him a murderer.

Story line doesn’t sound real exciting

  5. MARK says:

I’m guessing it’ll be about a Transgender person being attacked in bathroom since the setting is NC.

Hope Timothy Hutton plays good person this season.

  6. Angela says:

Cool news-look forward to seeing who she’ll play next season :). Sounds like an interesting potential storyline setup as well.

I hope Felicity is coming back too. Those two are the reason I’ve been watching

  8. Jolivette says:

It is going to be another thriller. John has a very unique and intriguing way of grabbing and keeping your attention. Can’t wait to be a part of this season.

  9. This and Fargo are great anthology series. Both EPs and/or show runners are brilliant. Good news about the ageless Ms. King returning. She is fabulous. Also, Felicity Huffman is to be applauded for the brave work she has done creating complex, often unlikable, characters in both seasons.

    Great news. Love her.
