Amy Sherman-Palladino's 1950s Dramedy Snags Pilot Order at Amazon

Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino‘s next TV project is taking her back nearly 70 years.

Amazon has handed a pilot order to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, an hour-long dramedy written by Sherman-Palladino about a 1950s housewife who decides to be one of the first female standup comics, Deadline reports.

AS-P will segue to Mrs. Maisel after she completes post production on Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Netflix’s four-part revival of the beloved WB/CW series.

Mrs. Maisel was one of five pilots Amazon ordered on Monday, joining Guillermo del Toro’s supernatural thriller Carnival Row, deep space drama Strange New Things from Bridge of Spies scribe Matt Charman, superhero comedy The Legend of Master Legend, and pre-revolutionary Cuba drama Tropicana.

Seems weird Netflix didn’t jump on this, but OK.

  2. Et al. says:

Is this going to be part of that stupid Amazon thing where you vote for a group of pilots that never become series?

Love ASP writing!! Wish there were more Bunheads Episodes/Seasons,love that show.

As a child of the 50’s, I’d prefer if the first sentence ended with “60 years” instead of “nearly 70 years”. I’ve got a long way to go before I hit my 70’s. ;-)

  5. Stacy says:

Now this sounds like something right up ASP’s alley. Fingers crossed this goes to series.

    So, she’s channeling Phyllis Diller?
