Recovery Road Cancelled

Recovery Road Cancelled at Freeform

It’s the end of the road for Recovery Road.

Freeform has cancelled the series after one season, TVLine has confirmed.

Executive producer Holly Sorensen broke the news via Twitter on Friday evening.

The drama, which debuted shortly after ABC Family changed its name in January, followed a high school teen as she entered a sober living facility. It wrapped its freshman season on March 28.

  1. N says:

Wtf!!!!!! Now I have nothing to watch on ABC Family

  2. Kameron says:

  3. I hope we get a wrap-up movie or something. They left us with a bit of a cliffhanger in the finale.

Why does Freeform keep cancelling their good shows?

    • Jj says:

      That’s what I am saying.

    • Kaura Cannon says:

Wes getting arrested, after him and Maddie finally share their feelings for one another. Rebecca leaving the house when she’s caught with those pills, that we’ll never know why she actually needed them. Cynthia’s ruined marriage and the son she never told anyone about.. **** Freeform

      • Verano says:

We do know why Rebecca needed the pills, she said why. It helps her stay sober. It was Suboxone. Assuming you dont know what that is, a lot of opiate addicts take it during recovery to stave off withdrawals and to help keep away cravings. Its an opiate blocker so if you were to use say heroin on top of your sub dose you wouldnt feel a thing.

      • Carlie Orzech says:

Right…..Stupid Freeform left the show with a big cliffhanger and it’s killing me

    • Aisha says:

AGREEEEED !! I’m still suffering withdrawals months later. I need a movie or a network move or something. It was a great show

  4. The truth hurts and is ugly says:

Well duh .. this is going to come out wrong, but UGLIEST cast on tv, and no personality to boot. If you’re going to be on a network like FF you don’t need acting skills but better look photogenic. This cast not so much

    • KC says:

So according to you all drug addicts and alcoholics look like supermodels and not real people? Ok

      • Beth says:

        Supermodels are real people :P

      • Ugly hurts like reality hurts says:

No I didn’t say that. What I did say was, “UGLIEST cast on tv”, I couldn’t get past that aspect to tell you anything else about this show. Cast ugly I didn’t watch …. apparently no one else did.

        • BrightLight says:

Wow, I had no idea that people had to be beautiful for a show to be successful? If that’s the case, your TV show list must be pretty short. How exactly do you go outside everyday? I mean when you see a not so pretty person do you turn away and look at the wall? No, you’re probably the person who stares at people with disabilities and laughs at them which proves that you are one of the UGLIEST people known to man.
As for this show, I enjoyed it as much as I loved Switched at Birth. It was nice to see a teen show that focused on real issues and not fantasy. Of course that’s the exact reason why it didn’t make it. I mean it had higher ratings than Stitchers and it got renewed. Such a shame.

          • Truth hurts but ugly hurts more says:

Fortunately for me most casting directors are as swallow as I am. Hence I have few trouble of my picks to watch. And really… in “real life”, grow up I cannot control that. I can however control my remote bye bye ugly and dull.

          • Hailee says:

The reason the show got cancelled most likely because of people not being able to handle what happens in situations like theirs. They want to just think doing drugs and drinking alcohol are fun. News flash its not with your choices come consequences whether there good or bad ones and people are not ready to handle that.

          • Romeo says:

Brightlight can we like meet you like say everything that I’m saying about this show.
lol, like seriously, i thought i was the only one

        • Linda Falke says:

Wow! You are so shallow. If you can’t watch a TV show because you think the cast is ugly, how on Earth do you manage to wander about in the real world seeing as it’s filled with people who don’t fit into your definition of beauty? Oh, you poor thing! 😱

        • Georgina Herrera says:

          You suck

        • cayla says:

keith powers is most definenlty ugly sooooo that’s dead second the leade and her mother are very beautiful and so were her friends nw that I think about I. idk what you are talking about

    • that’s just stupid, both the lead actors were part of Skins and their characters are widely loooved. Honestly is people shallow like you that get good shows cancelled, go back to watch teen wolf, gossip girl or whatever.

    • Nan says:

I am just seeing that Recovery Road was cancelled because I came to see when season 2 was going to start. I am so very sad and mad that they would cancel this very good show. What is wrong with them? First they change their name to arguably the worst name for a network ever, then they drop this quality show. Why did Netflix or someone pick it up????

    • Nan says:

Stupid thing to say. They look like real people. I too like watching shows with pretty cast but thought that the reality of this subject really needed a real looking cast and very quickly I was able to see everyone of the casts individual beauty and for once I wasn’t sitting in judgement of how they dress or how their hair and make up looked. This show was awesome and if it was cancelled because of shallow people and their shallow opinions that is such a shame. The majority of viewers are not shallow

    • Sa says:

      What? Wes was hot

    • Romeo says:

the truth hurt and ugly says: to you sir/madam you are really ugly because you say the stupidest things ever. you don’t know a good cast when you see one, and it’s either you are just a hater or just a person who doesn’t appreciate good shows. So not because you don’t need sobriety for some addiction of yours BECAUSE YOU’RE FLIPPING PERFECT
that doesn’t mean that you are obliged to say something.
If you’re are gonna say something about a film, if your comment is not homogenous don’t say it

  5. Victor Field says:

The Curse Of Aubrey Peeples a thing? (She was in the pilot of this and “Star-Crossed” and, of course, she joined “Nashville”)…

  6. Et al. says:

The whole Freeform launch has been a disaster.

  7. Lola says:

This is why I’m very reluctant to watch anytihng on Freeforn formerly known as ABCFamily. I will never forgive them for cutting Kyle XY after that writers strike way back when. I’m also still fuming over the loss of The Lying Game. Also look at how they are treating Switched At a Birth for their final season. I was going to give this show a shot but with a schedule conflict Iwas unable to. Thank goodness now. I would be livid. But shows like Pretty Little Mess and The Stupid Life Of An Amreican Teenager go on forever.

    • Just a dumbass says:

Congrats! So happy you came out of your coma, the year 2016 and Stupid Life has been off the air for 4 years or so … just like your dated reference. I hear TVland needs older viewers hehe

      • Lola says:

But it went way past its expiration date. The show was bad. I wasnt referring to just current shows airing. I was explaining the very real difference between how certain shows are treated in comparison to others. Bye.

    • chadcronin says:

I feel the exact same way. Kyle XY and The Lying Game could have been given a Final season but they just cut them off. I canceled my cable after the switched at birth mistreatment and haven’t looked back. Hopefully the show will still be on Netflix when the Final season is released as I’ll have to rewatch the show to remember what was going on.

      • Jj says:

I know they are taking forever with switched at birth. I don’t even know why they are cancelling it. Oh wait because, its not their creation. So stupid, their still making money.

  8. Rebecka says:

This was SO GOOD! Better than any of the abc family/FREEFORM shows I’ve watched so far. So sad that it won’t continue, could have gotten even better with time.

    • the cast is good… maybe netflix or other network would pick it up or something (honestly the actors of Skins / Misfits are freaking amazing, almost everyone is doing great things)

      • cayla says:

trueeee I didn’t even think about that. that’s what they did for deggrassi Netflix needs to get on that real quick

      • Marla says:

Or even Hulu.. Hulu was in talks of picking up Nashville if CMT didn’t since they already own rights to it anyway.. like they picked up the Mindy Project.. I love that they can pick shows up now because when TV drops the most amazing shows they usually end up somewhere else

  9. Michelle says:

How disappointing. It was pretty good too. :/

  10. Ben says:

I can’t believe they cancelled recovery road. I love that show and i walk looking forward to season two. I am so sick of these people starting these shows, knowing that people are going to like them, and just not finishing what they started. They’re always getting our hopes up.

    • Noelle says:

So true I just wish it never got canceled. Only show I really watched on tv. I thought it was canceled but I kept looking and looking for it. But nope. Had to be canceled. This sucks

  11. Ericka Dixon says:

Whyyyyyyyyyyyy? I loved this show they need to bring it back it was real life issues being talked about I guess some people can’t handle real another good show bites the dust.

  12. Heya says:

The show was worth a second season and dramas take time to develop attraction. Looks like this last year not many new (er)shows are getting a green light.

  13. sunshine says:

This was a good show with a fatal flaw: The lead actress couldn’t act. She was just as flat and dull as it is possible to be and the show rested on her. Too bad, the other young people were generally pretty good actors and some of them were really good.

    • Tiff says:

Actually in my opinion i was she not a bad actress she played in the show skins and she was a sweet character her and the wes cahratcer did great in the show skins . and i personally loved this show . i was left wanting to see more i hate how they ended this show they could have ended it better at least .

  14. johnhelvete says:

Decent show, not as good as the first seasons of SAB, the Fosters or Chasing Life though. Can’t blame Freeform for cancelling a show when the viewership was never over 491,000 for an episode.

  15. blah says:

Wow, I can’t believe this. this is just awful, this show was actually a pretty good depiction of addicts in recovery and it was just fresh and different for freeform. I hope this show gets saved somewhere else or they came to their senses, which that I know isn’t very likely. Atleast give us some closure.

  16. Anne says:

They probably could have advertised it a bit better. I saw the trailers all the time and never watched the show (but I watch pretty much the entire Freeform lineup). The main girl came across as such an unlikeable person in the trailers…I just had no interest in watching more of her indulgent behaviour. If they had, I don’t know, altered that a bit in some way, I likely would have watched.
I expect there were a lot of people like me in this case. People who watch SaB and Fosters *should* have watched Recovery Road….but didn’t.

  17. Anne says:

They really ought to have just done a Girls United spinoff like everyone wanted.

  18. Jackie says:

Why cancel Recovery Road. I just found it and I work with Teen addicts THEY told me about it. They love it 😞

  19. Hope says:

This show was great. I could watch it with both my teen girls AND it was smart. 10 episodes is really unfair to base an opinion on. Bad decision but then again, so is it to make us wait 1 yearfor SWITCHED AT BIRTH to finish its run. Why not just cancel all your shows?

  20. chuckiechk says:

disappointed, this was actually a really strongly written show about REAL EVERYDAY PROBLEMS.

  21. Ally Oop says:

Well, this past season’s crop of new shows failed for me for the most part. Of the 13 new shows I stuck with this past season 7 have been renewed–Quantico, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Blindspot, This Life, Fuller House, Shadowhunters and Mercy Street. The jury is still out for Code Black and Colony. Game of Silence, Recovery Road, Grandfathered, Blood & Oil and Containment were cancelled.

  22. Kelsey moniz says:

I don’t understand why they canceled a great show finding carter and now another. 😤

  23. The Freeform launch really seems to be messing up what worked for ABC Family. Between this and what they’re doing to Switched at Birth (TEARS!), I’m really disappointed with the reboot of this network.

  24. Rachel says:

This crazy wtf i really enjoyed this show it not cool how other show that are not teen related issuse gets to get go on forever and this one they not even going to bother giving it another chance take risk damn

  25. Alicia says:

I can’t believe this, this was my favorite show!!!!!!How could this be true. Freeform sucks!!!!! 😠😠😠😠

  26. Breanna Williams says:

This is the best show Freeform (ABC Family) has ever had. Yet you keep shadowhunters which is one of the dumbest shows I’ve ever seen. I’m so mad about this. I love Recovery Road. It was my favorite show. So thanks for ruining that and getting my hopes up. That’s a good way to piss people off.

  27. Brandy McDonald says:

Why does all the good shows get cancelled? Really like this show

  28. Emma Haley says:

This was literally the only show keeping me at FreeForm (also with Shadowhunters and Stitchers, both newer shows). The old shows are just getting boring and this was a fresh new idea. Wth this is really happening? Now I’m really upset about this. Goodbye FreeForm, I’ll be waiting for a new show as good as this one.

  29. Chase says:

They can’t end the show the way they did recovery road was great but the season 1 ended leaving a lot of questions

  30. Diana says:

I can’t believe FREEFORM is cancelling another show. Just like when they cancelled Bunheads. Give the shows a chance! I guess why watch unless it’s the 2nd season.

  31. Emily says:

This was a great show.. probably one of the only shows that I waited for every week and got excited about when I knew it was going to be on.. I hope freeform gets there act together!!

  32. Sally says:

Recovery Road is my favorite TV show. Even though it doesn’t come on anymore, I still watch the first season that I recorded on my TV. Please DON’T cancel the show! I want to find out what happens next. Especially to Wes. Please reconsider. This show is greater than you think.

  33. michelle says:

I can’t believe your canceling this show I thought It was great I always watch it.keep it on the air I’m so upset right now …wow I was waiting for season 2 come on….why would you do this when it was getting real good…I hate when tv shows end especially thur good ones..I agree with half the people on this show it was way better then shadow hunters…bring this show back recovery road pls…

  34. Jasmine Baldwin says:

I am upset this show ended because I go to an alternative school with girl with emotional nd drug problems. And when watched this show and it changed a lot of kids lives in my school . And I just wish it was still on because it could save more teens lives by showing them they can stop doing drugs. And I loved it. Please reconsider cutting it back on please.

  35. Danielle says:

Wow, this show rocked! Now recovery road is cancelled, Shame on yall! I will no longer watch this network!

  36. Destiny says:

Another horrible decision made by a TV company. Take away all the good series and keep the stupid meaningless ones why don’t you

  37. A says:

So sad that this has been cancelled. I love this show and wish it would continue. It talks about hard topics that need to be talked about

  38. Jorddan says:

I feel like recovery road is a perfect example of why not to do drugs it was a very good tv show i hope you put it back up and jeep it going.

  39. Samee says:

  40. D. Woods says:

I loved that show. We watched it as a family. Hopefully another channel will pick it up.

  41. Kelsey says:

They shouldn’t have marketed it as some tragic love story. That’s why I didn’t tune in. The promotional poster and tv promo were full of her and the guy. blahhh don’t care.

  42. As a mother of 5 children and 1 of them is an addict…..this show hit home My daughter has been in 3 rehabs. It’s a true depiction of what they are going thru. They made a mistake and are trying to RE HAB!! Thank you for your show. So sad it’s done. My daughter ….THANKS to rehab is now a drug and alcohol counselor in a halfway house helping others get clean because she knows THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!!!! She is expecting her 1st baby in September and has been clean for several years. SOOOOO many people live in a freaking bubble and deny the REAL world. THIS show NEEDS to get picked up by another network.

  43. RECOVERY says:

This is the only reason i still watch ABC Family… FreeForm is such a stupid name!!!

  44. RECOVERY says:

Why not cancel Shadowhunters!! its so stupid and its not even accurate

    • Breanna Williams says:

I totally agree. Recovery Road is the best show they’ve ever had in my opinion. I won’t watch Freeform anymore. And the person that said it failed because the cast is ugly… for one : how shallow can you be? I bet you’re perfect (not!) 😴😈😂. For two: I think a lot of people would agree that the cast is the complete opposite of ugly. I don’t know why it got cancelled. The only rationale is that Freeform is ignorant. But seriously, there is no reasonable explanation for the show’s cancellation. So Freeform, Thanks again for ruining something really great. But that’s what you’re good at, right?

  45. Hina says:

What the hell, this show was amazing! This show touched my heart in so many ways. Why would abc family cancelled a tv show that represents every teens/ adults situation with life, it was all reality. This show was a perfect example of a persons life, dealing with though decisions every single day and having to choose between family or drugs. This show made a huge impact in my life since I never seen a reality tv show that actually shows how life can bring you down and bring you back up stronger than never. Who ever the hell made the decison to cancelled this show… You did the wrong decision.

  46. Alicia says:

This totally sucks I liked this show and the creature’s. They should have at least finished the season out this summer with a good ending.

  47. Katy says:

I loved this show. I feel like it gave some real truth on daily struggles addicts face. I really think it’s rude they couldnt even give a second season after the cliff hanger on the first season.

  48. Kasey says:

Recovery Road helped me cope with me being in recovery myself. This show will truly be missed.

  49. autumn says:

I think this is a horrible decision. This tv show teaches young teenagers the danger and cause and effect of using drugs and abusing alcohol. Horrible decision canceling it. Very disappointed.

  50. S says:

I don’t get why good shows on freeform aren’t popular yet Pretty Little Liars just won’t end and it has gotten to the point that it is just ridiculous.
