24: Legacy Series

24 Reboot, Lee Daniels' Star Snag Early Series Orders at Fox

Fox is getting an early jump on Upfront week, ordering 24: Legacy and Lee Daniels’ Star to series.

The 24 reboot, which stars The Walking Dead‘s Corey Hawkins, Homeland‘s Miranda Otto and NYPD Blue/Sons of Anarchy vet Jimmy Smits, will adopt the original series’ real-time format. Like 2014’s event series 24: Live Another Day, 24: Legacy will consist of 12 episodes (although Legacy, unlike 24: LAD, is an ongoing series).

As previously reported, Hawkins will essentially be playing the new Jack Bauer in the potential series. His character, Eric Carter, is a former Army Ranger who finds himself pulled back into action as his past comes looking for him. He eventually turns to CTU for help in saving his life and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

The cast also includes The Messengers‘ Anna Diop (as Eric’s wife) and Masters of Sex‘s Teddy Sears (as the new head of CTU).

“There’s a time jump, a new organization, a completely different story,” Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden teased back in February. “It’s a contemporary story about the potential to activate sleeper cells in the United States. There are nods in the pilot to prior CTU agents, but no ongoing characters.”

Star, meanwhile, is being billed as a music-infused drama exec produced by Empire co-creator Daniels.

Any word on whether 24: Legacy will air in the fall or in winter/spring 2017?

Let the mania begin! Love the upfronts and pilot season.

I’m torn: would really like to support a mainstream show with a non-white lead, but have zero interest in 24 without Kiefer.

So don’t think of it as 24… Just any other action show that is sharing part of the Iconic name…… I think it’ll be great…

      • Dysturbed says:

It’s understandably not easy for everyone to do that, but your approach is what I’m taking too. While comparisons to the long time version will be inevitable, I like to attempt to view reboots, remakes, etc. on their own merit.

Then they shouldn’t have called it 24.

I’m a huge 24 fan but I’ll give the reboot a chance. Have a feeling Corey Hawkins’ character is no Jack Bauer or does he?

I kinda wish you would stop saying that Corey Hawkins will be playing the new Jack Bauer. That gives people the impression that Jack is being replaced when he’s not. Hence the comments “Corey Hawkins is no Jack Bauer”. Corey will be playing a completely different character that is not even a part of CTU. Jack Bauer was a CTU agent. Just my two cents :-)

    • David4 says:

I agree, because it’s not an actual reboot.

      • wrstlgirl says:

At least somebody else gets it :-) People are so quick to judge things these days. But I guess that’s no real surprise since we live in this world demanding instant gratification. A cliffhanger, how dare they :-)

  6. Kaz says:

not happy..they needed to finish off 24 properly…so we can find out what happened to Jack!!!!!!!

    • lrdslvrhnd says:

      That’s what Sweeps are for…

      • Dysturbed says:

Kiefer Sutherland is the lead on a straight to series show on ABC next season so his availability may be minimal to nonexistent for awhile to finish off the original 24 “properly,” including during sweeps.

  7. Kelly says:

No Jack Bauer, No Kate Morgan …NO ME. I don’t care who you get, if it ain’t Jack or Kate (who Jack was setting up to take over) I DONT CARE

    • JSS says:

It’s a shame Kate isn’t in this. They should bring her back in some capacity, especially since Yvonne Strahovski isn’t currently attached to any TV series.

  8. BillyBobJohnson says:

    Two words: Bourne Legacy

  9. R.O.B. says:

Shouldn’t it be called “12” if there are just 12 episodes? If it is in realtime format how does that even make sense?

    • Dysturbed says:

It can be in real time for say the first five episodes, then jump ahead a certain amount of hours, then resume real time, and so on. Such a thing can allow for the show to take place in a less confined area, (since if they have to get from one location to another, it’s always had to be fairly close more often than not, but still take place over the course of 24 hours.

That or it can be like 24: Live Another day, which was 12 episodes over the course of roughly 12 hours (due to real time) then did a jump at the end, therefore having the show technically take place over 24 hours.

  10. Diz says:

There is only 1 Jack Bauer!

  11. Mark says:

What the hell happened to Kate Morgan — I have zero interest in this new format without any of the original crew
