Joanie 'Chyna' Laurer Dead

WWE Legend Chyna Dead at 46

Pioneering WWE legend Joanie “Chyna” Laurer, who found renewed fame as a reality-TV star, has died. She was 46.

According to the Associated Press, Laurer — whose TV gigs included a celeb edition of NBC’s Fear Factor, VH1’s The Surreal Life and an episode of 3rd Rock From the Sun — was found dead Wednesday evening in her home outside Los Angeles after police responded to a 911 call from a friend who found her not breathing after not answering phone calls for several days.

A cause of death has not been released.

“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero,” read a statement on Chyna’s official Twitter and Facebook accounts. “Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.”

Laurer had been open about her long struggle with substance abuse. She even appeared on the inaugural season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2008.

In a 2015 interview with VICE Sports, Laurer discussed some of the challenges she faced as a female wrestler. Watch highlights of that Q&A below.

That is a damn shame. Definitely a pioneer.

  8. Delirious says:

Wasn’t she recurring in 3rd Rock From The Sun? I think I recall she played the cop girlfriend to one of the mains for a few episodes?

Anyway, her relationship with WWE had been fractured for years, following her substance abuse (rumours point to involuntary overdose, apparently she was on anxiety + sleep deprivation meds), and her several porn movies…

    • Joey says:

She was actually pretty funny on 3rd Rock! Obviously her wrestling career far outshines that, but I really enjoyed her on that show.

  13. Katie Moehn says:

Isn’t she the one who cheated with Jessie, Sandra Bullick’s ex husband? I could be wrong, any how it’s still very sad she died at such a young age, was she sick with a disease? I am not sure what the circumstances are, but I hope she is at eternal peace!

Here is another wwe superstar who has died and the reason why will be swept under the rug just like the others who die all of a sudden. So many wwe deaths are mysteries to me.

    • Walkie says:

Why are they mysteries? It’s a brutal lifestyle. You are traveling 300+ days a year and putting your body through hell. It’s easy to get hooked on anything that gets you through it. Pain pills, booze and hard core drugs. And that doesn’t even count the PED’s that some abuse.

      • Patrick says:

And the CTE. I know its “fake,” but I bet those guys rack up a lot of concussions. Mild concussions compared to NFL types, but Wrestlers probably get a lot more, if milder, concussions. It adds up.

I’ll always love you Chyna. You are my role model. I modeled my body to look like yours, and you’ve given strength not only to me, but to other women, to persevere in their goals, to rise above all else no matter any of our past mistakes, you have given us the I can do attitude.
Now rest in the arms of our creator, Jesus Christ, peace be with you Chyna.
Thank you for everything. Love Martha Ivery

  19. Steve F. says:

I always hoped she would turn her life around. RIP to the 9th Wonder of the World.

  20. Yokoohnoshedidnt says:

So heartbreaking. It was hard to watch Chyna struggle. I kept hoping for some type of return to women’s wrestling within the wwe, especially with all the changes that have been going on with women’s wrestling there. She was an icon and definitely played some part in where it’s heading now. I always had the feeling that she never felt like she was good enough or anything enough. You know what I’m saying.

  21. Pigford says:

She was 46? Is has to be drug related …I hope I’m wrong but 46 year old people rarely just drop dead

  22. ChildhoodFan says:

Ultimate victim of WWE, McMahon, that bitch Stephnie and an a-hole who betrayed her Triple H.
