This is Xtina’s world. But The Voice wouldn’t be nothin’ — no nothin’ — without Season 10’s boys and girls.
Apologies to James Brown, but as the live playoffs kick off tonight (8/7c), it looks like the “girl curse*” of NBC’s reality singing juggernaut is about to be broken — thanks to Christina Aguilera’s deep and seemingly unbeatable roster of contestants. (*The girl curse refers to the fact that no female coach has won the show in nine cycles.)
Of course, under the rules set up by exec producer Mark Burnett & Co., the Lady Aguilera can only have three team members advance to next week’s Top 12 — so all hope is not lost for her comrades Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine.
We’ve taken the liberty of ranking each coach’s artists from No. 6 to No. 1 based on the strength of their Blinds, Battles and Knockouts — and general Internet buzz — including the four rumored “coach’s comeback” picks who’ll re-enter the fray this week (gleaned from iTunes pre-sales for Teams Blake and Xtina, and from the reliable MJSbigblog for Teams Adam and Pharrell).
