Chicago Justice: Lorraine Toussaint to Reprise Law & Order Role on Spinoff

Lorraine Toussaint is taking on the criminal justice system once again — on Chicago Justice, NBC’s next installment in its Windy City franchise.

According to THR, Toussaint will guest-star in the forthcoming backdoor pilot as defense attorney Shambala Green, a role she originated on Law & Order in 1990 and last played in 2003. Chicago Justice‘s trial run (no pun intended) will air this spring, as Episode 21 of Chicago P.D.

Toussaint, who currently co-stars on Fox’s Rosewood, joins Philip Winchester (The Player), Nazneen Contractor (Heroes Reborn), Joelle Carter (Justified) and Carl Weathers (Rocky) in the potential series. Her recent TV credits include ForeverThe Fosters and Orange Is the New Black.

  1. Marco says:

That creates a little problem with S. Epatha Merkerson being the hospital chief on Med, doesn’t it?

    • David4 says:

No. Not at all. Lorraine Toussaint will probably be only in this one episode, isn’t a huge name in the L&O universe, and even within L&O the same actors have played numberous roles.

      • maregolden says:

Yes. The awesome Jerry Orbach played a defense attorney in an early episode of L&O and was later cast to play Lenny Briscoe.

        • BrightLight says:

The winner is when Jeremy Sisto played a lawyer in the last episode of Season 17 of L&O and in first episode of Season 18 he was Green’s new partner. It’s really funny and jarring when you watch those episodes back to back.

          • David4 says:

Good thing I didn’t watch season 17. :) Like season 12-17 I really disliked the show. The seasons with Dennis Farina are my least favorite. It amazes me that rewatching them how well most of the 20 years of the show really is.

      • Wendy says:

And the bulk of Shambala Green’s tenure pre-dated Van Buren, anyway! (Not to mention Merkerson herself played another role as a grieving mother in the S1 episode “Mushrooms”.

    • Sally McLinn says:

      Isn’t she on Rosewood?

  2. Nicole Walker says:

Kinda wish she was going to be a lead. Green was a boss in court.

  3. Yolo says:

What does this mean for Rosewood?

  4. Shannon says:

That is great casting – loved her in Any Day Now. I’m getting more and more excited about Chicago Justice.

  5. Cherry says:

Please has Casey Novak (Diane Neal) or Alex Cabot (Stephanie March) from SVU as a regular. They’re awesome characters who deserve a reprise.

    • Jennifer says:

      That would be great!!

But what does this mean for Rosewood? Will she continue on that show, or could this be related to the blind item?

  6. Phil says:

    I still want Brenda Strong!

  7. kate says:

Love Chicago PD, like Chicago Fire, can’t watch Chicago Med …. but come on! Enough is enough! I keep waiting for it to be a joke….
