Carrie Preston Cast When We Rise

Carrie Preston to Star in ABC's Gay Rights Mini When We Rise

Carrie Preston is taking a stand in the ABC miniseries When We Rise, which chronicles the gay rights movement.

Per our sister site Deadline, the Good Wife favorite (and star of NBC’s new Crowded sitcom) will play Sally Gearheart, a regal and smart radical with a long career as a gay rights activist.

The eight-hour mini explores the personal and political setbacks and triumphs of the men and women who helped pioneer one of the last legs of the U.S. Civil Rights struggle.

When We Rise hails from the team behind the Oscar-nominated film Milk, with Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black set to pen and executive-produce alongside Bruce Cohen. Milk director Gus Van Sant will helm the first installment.

Preston’s previous TV credits also include True Blood, Happyish and Person of Interest.

I hope it’s not depressing like just about every one of these type of TV shows/movies. The over/under on this show is 2 being the number of main characters who slowly die of HIV/AIDS. There will be at least one racist southern Sheriff with a shirt unbuttoned down to his belly button sexually abusing between 1-3 activists.

  2. BrightLight says:

On a semi unrelated note: I really love that the major networks are bringing the miniseries back.

Love her… and her husband (Finch of POI)!
