The Blacklist Season 3

The Blacklist Casting New Big Bad With 'Shocking, Intimate' Ties to Red

One huge skeleton will soon be pulled from Ray Reddington’s closet.

TVLine has learned that The Blacklist is casting the role of Alexander Kirk, a foe of Red’s who will play heavily into the final episodes of Season 3 and well into Season 4.

Here’s the full character description: “Charming and charismatic, he is a multi-national businessman whose strong personal ethics and whip-sharp intelligence have made him a major player on the world stage. He is now using his power and resources to strike back against his longtime nemesis, Raymond Reddington.”

What’s more, Kirk and Red “share a history fraught with lies and betrayal, with Kirk connected to one of the most intimate, shocking secrets from Red’s past.”

The NBC drama is seeking a 50- to 65-year-old male to play Kirk, who will appear in Episodes 21 through 23 of the current third season, before returning in Season 4 for roughly eight episodes.

  1. P says:

Does this mean blacklist will have 23 episodes this year instead of 22?

  2. Linzi Deggans says:

Christopher Meloni, Michael Keaton, Bryan Cranston, just a few I can think of.

  3. A little older, but George Hamilton. He exudes charm.

  4. Ty says:

This is my biggest problem with American television. A 23 episode season for a weekly series is just too much of a commitment

  5. courieroldstyle says:

This will surely lead to another round in the by now silly “I know who you are to her” game, teasing the Red/Liz connection without giving definite answers. I’m bored.

  6. Sal says:

“Kirk connected to one of the most intimate, shocking secrets from Red’s past”
    …That Red is Liz’s mother?

Oh come on, everyone figured it out already.

  7. Tom says:

WILLIAM SHATNER!!!!!!! Sure, a bit older tha. The description, but so what!!!!! :)

  8. Shar says:

William Shatner with slightly darker hair because I want to see the 2 of them together again.

  9. Kaey says:

    Sam Elliott

  10. JuluiaJ. says:

Jon Tenney. He’s the correct age and he can play charming and charismatic.

  11. Mags says:

    Pierce Brosnan

  12. Kat Byrd says:

    Giancarlo Esposito from “Breaking Bad”…

  13. sg says:

Andrew McCarthy, Rob Lowe or Robert Downey Jr.

    Steve Harris or Patrick Dempsey.

And just cause I would love to see them and their snarky selves share screen time with James’ snark, but Mark Sheppard, Mark Pellegrino or Sebastian Roche

  14. Crickett Haskell says:

Christopher Meloni or Jeff Bridges if they’d do it!!!

  15. Kate says:

    Andrew McCarthy

  16. Kathleen says:

    John Noble

  17. Christina says:

I’ll bet my left leg this Alexander is Elizabeths biological father. “Who else would care?” Oh Lizzie…

  18. kirads09 says:

    Matt Craven
    William Fichtner
    Hiroyuki Sanada
    Viggo Mortensen
    Nonso Anozie
    Michael Nyqvist
    Enrico Colantoni
    Edward James Olmos

Kirk? William Shatner – is older but then also ageless. Plus it would be a mini Boston Legal reunion!

  19. N says:

Does this new Big Bad know Red had a sex change and is actually Liz’s mother. it is a shocking intimate secret after all. I’m really starting to think this is an actual possibility. We’ve never really seen what the mother looks like, Red has alluded to plastic surgery in the past . Has a motherly like relationship with Liz and Dembe. Plus do we really no anything about Reds life before the early 90’s which is when Liz’s mother happened to fall off the radar. Also the only time we’ve seen him with clothes off is from behind with the burn scares from the same fire the mother we know the mother was in. I realize this is a crazy insane theory, but this has become a crazy show and it would be one of the biggest WTF moments in TV history if they reveal Red was the mother all along.

  20. Katie_Mead says:

John Cusack, just because everytime I think of James Spader, I (still) recall scenes of those two together from “True Colors”.

  21. Hank Ranney says:

I will gladly take the role of Kirk. Just let me know when.

  22. april says:

    Charlie Sheen!!!! ha…

  23. Ron Davis says:

casting: Kevin Spacey, Denzel Washington, John Malkovich

  24. Melanie says:

Jim Caviezel from Person of Interest

  25. KayrenD says:

Oh, I’m sure the producers (including Mr. Spader) and casting director already have people in mind, but it’s not a matter of casting an attractive male actor, aged 50-65; it’s also casting an actor that the viewers can accept as “evil” and at least as formidable as James Spader. :-) For example, George Clooney is an attractive male actor “of a certain age,” but I can’t imagine him as formidably evil. Same with Jon Hamm. Patrick Demsey played an evil character in one of the “Transformers” films, but it was hard to accept him as evil after all the years he played “McDreamy.” Know what I mean? Too bad that the absolutely biggest, most formidable “evil guy”–Alan Rickman–is no longer available for casting.

    • Olivia says:

Alan Rickman vs James Spader would have been so good that I can’t think of an adjective strong enough to describe it.

    • sg says:

Patrick Demsey appeared on The Practice during one of Spader’s first season on the show, when he first created the role of Alan Shore before it spun off into Boston Legal.. Demsey was a long time friend of Alan’s and accused of murdering his wife or girlfriend. He was charming and charismatic and likable and in the end he fooled everyone including Alan, because he did in fact commit the crime. Demsey and Spader were great together and would love to see them work together again.

  26. clintbrew says:

kurt russell from the stargate movie he played the movie o’neil he fits the age quota

  27. Guest says:

William Shatner would be great but I think that he’s just a bit older than the producers are looking for (he’ll be 85 soon). I like some of the other suggestions (Christopher Meloni, Jon Tenney, Bryan Cranston) they are in the age range the producers are looking for.

  28. John C. Fee says:

Steve Austin would be a good choice….. John

  29. Laurie says:

    Tim DeKay from White Collar

  30. Normandy says:

It would never happen for this particular role, but they need to get Michael Shanks to guest star just because they were both Daniel Jackson.

  31. Eric says:

    Bencio Del Toro

  32. MB29 says:

    Titus Welliver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. I got hooked on this show through netflex, but now i can’t find it on my dish network, what chanel i want to watch it now, not have to wait.

  34. fred says:

    How about Jon Cryer

  35. gardenpeggy says:

Probably too old, but Ian McShane would be wonderful :)

  36. PB says:

    William Shatner would be cool.

  37. Bob says:

Kirk knows Red’s connection to Lizzy, Kirk is Red’s Brother or half brother…if possible Gary Oldman should play Kirk

  38. Paul Walters says:

Robert John Burke. All. The. Way. He’d be perfect.

  39. Sue Turner says:

    Liam Neeson would be great

  40. John Latch says:

He could know that Reddington had Elizabeth’s Father killed.

  41. RR says:

I think they should cast The Most Interesting Man in the World

  42. VFC says:

Giancarlo Esposito would be a great casting choice! Need to think a little more about that connection….what COULD it be?

  43. Statia says:

May not be the right age, but Mark Harmon is great!

  44. wiske2 says:

Shatner would be great! other names: William Petersen, Vincent d’Onofrio, Hugh Laurie could all be excellent playing off James.

if this means no more Jacob/Tom, all the better!

  45. Ali says:

I would love it if Kirk as played by William Shatner. Wouldn’t that be cool! He’d be the best.

I’d also like to see the following play Kirk: Pierce Brosnan, Tom Selleck, Adam Baldwin or even Kurt Russell.

  47. Megan says:

The big bad could be Christopher Heyerdahl from Hell on Wheels…..oh please oh please!

  48. Linda Eddy says:

Should be played by William Shatner (bourbon and cigars)
