Netflix’s Luke Cage series will flex its muscle this fall.
Series star/Good Wife vet Mike Colter, who first portrayed the impervious character in Netflix’s Jessica Jones series, announced the release date — Sept. 30 — in the video below, from the premiere party for Daredevil Season 2.
With the aforementioned Daredevil returning March 18, Luke Cage would seem to fill the Netflix/Marvel quota for 2016. As Netflix boss Ted Sarandos said in January, “It’s not the goal to put out more than one or two a year,” given the motion-picture quality of each series.
Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb told Adweek that following Luke Cage‘s debut, Iron Fist Season 1, Jessica Jones Season 2 or the team-up series The Defenders are among the candidates to be next in queue.
Among Luke Cage‘s supporting cast, House of Cards‘ Mahershala Ali will play night club owner Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Sons of Anarchy‘s Theo Rossi is career criminal/Luke Cage nemesis Shades (AKA Alvarez), Alfre Woodard has been cast a local politician who may or may not be a version of the Marvel villain Black Mariah, Simone Missick is playing Harlem police detective Misty Knight, and Sonia Braga will play Soledad Temple, mother to Claire Temple (Daredevil‘s Rosario Dawson).
