Fall TV Preview
Luke Cage Premiere Date

Marvel's Luke Cage Gets Premiere Date

Netflix’s Luke Cage series will flex its muscle this fall.

Series star/Good Wife vet Mike Colter, who first portrayed the impervious character in Netflix’s Jessica Jones series, announced the release date — Sept. 30 — in the video below, from the premiere party for Daredevil Season 2.

With the aforementioned Daredevil returning March 18, Luke Cage would seem to fill the Netflix/Marvel quota for 2016. As Netflix boss Ted Sarandos said in January, “It’s not the goal to put out more than one or two a year,” given the motion-picture quality of each series.

Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb told Adweek that following Luke Cage‘s debut, Iron Fist Season 1, Jessica Jones Season 2 or the team-up series The Defenders are among the candidates to be next in queue.

Among Luke Cage‘s supporting cast, House of Cards‘ Mahershala Ali will play night club owner Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Sons of Anarchy‘s Theo Rossi is career criminal/Luke Cage nemesis Shades (AKA Alvarez), Alfre Woodard has been cast a local politician who may or may not be a version of the Marvel villain Black Mariah, Simone Missick is playing Harlem police detective Misty Knight, and Sonia Braga will play Soledad Temple, mother to Claire Temple (Daredevil‘s Rosario Dawson).

  1. Joey says:

If its anywhere near the quality of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, I’m super excited.

  2. Jason Paul says:

Why do it right in the middle of Fall premiere season? More exposure or lost in the shuffle?

  3. Stephon JS says:

5 months after Dare Devil not too bad. so about 4 or 5 months later is Iron Fist so around Jan or Feb and then The Defenders or Jessica Jones season 2 June or July (After Avengers: Infinity Wars)

  4. Cris says:

So excited. And super excited for Alfre Woodard! I hope she’s Black Mariah, she would play an excellent villain.

  5. Steph says:

I just have to read Mike Colter’s named I get wet.

  6. Annie says:

Dear god I’m excited for this. I didn’t know we were getting Claire’s mom, that’s awesome!!! And Jessica is going to make an appearance right?? She hasssss to.

    • Ash says:

My guess is no. Jones and Cage ended their relationship in an awkward place. Everything Cage did when he came back into Jones life is suspect because we don’t know what he felt because the Purple Man was kind controlling him. My guess is Cage and Claire Temple will have a short relationship on show ending with Temple concluding once again she needs to find a boyfriend who isn’t super powered, if she wants a normal life.

  7. Mila says:

Not excited. He’s too damn boring. Daredevil and Jessica Jones are far better characters.
