Tangled Before Ever After Ashley Judd Cast

Disney Channel's Tangled Series Adds Ashley Judd, Jonathan Banks and More

A whole bunch of big names want to get caught up in Tangled.

The Disney Channel series Tangled: Before Ever After has added a slew of TV and movie stars to its ranks, the network announced Tuesday. Among the cast additions: Ashley Judd (Divergent); Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul); Sean Hayes (Will & Grace); Jeremy Jordan (Supergirl); and Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent), reprising his role from the 2010 movie.

As previously reported, Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi also will voice their characters from the film —Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively — in the series, which will feature music and lyrics from Alan Menken and Glenn Slater. Chris Sonnenburg (Enchanted) and Shane Prigmore (How to Train Your Dragon) will executive-produce.

Judd will lend her voice to Rapunzel’s mother Queen Arianna, while Broadway’s Eden Espinosa (Wicked) will be Rapunzel’s handmaiden/confidant Cassandra. Tambor will voice Snuggly Duckling Pub Thug Big Nose — joined by the film’s Shorty (Anchorman‘s Paul F. Tompkins) — and M.C. Gainey (Lost) will voice the Captain of the Guards as he did in the movie.

Other new cast members include: Richard Kind (Gotham), comedian Jeff Ross, Peter MacNicol (Ally McBeal), Clancy Brown (Sleepy Hollow), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show), and Charles Halford (Constantine).

Set between the events of the feature film and the 2012 short Tangled Ever After, the animated series finds Rapunzel acquainting herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona, as she realizes there is so much left to learn before she can accept her royal destiny. The series is slated to premiere in 2017.

  1. So, her hair regrows after she cut it off in the movie so she can have it long in the TV series, meaning she cuts it off again before the short — and I’ve gone crosseyed.

    • kitsunesaru says:

I *think* they just have the long hair for promo material. I guess they want to make sure people can recognize it easily, even though all of us are just becoming confused by the long hair again.

      • Someone on Facebook compared it to the Genie in the Aladdin TV series still living in the lamp even though that movie ended with Aladdin setting him free.

        • kitsunesaru says:

True, but they were pretty fast and loose with that show. Tangled has pretty set continuity. The only real Aladdin is the original movie (maaaybe the third movie).

    • clintbrew says:

she had long hair in sofia the first and that was set after the tangled movie as well

    • GoldenSun says:

From what I’ve heard from people close to the show…she starts off with her short hair in the beginning then there’s something that changes it back to long and blond.

Don’t know much else, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

    • Stevey says:

I hope that her hair does and will grow back along with her powers, it wouldn’t make sense for none of her hair to ever fall out or regrow for the rest of her entire life..although she did have that little patch that didn’t grow back from mother gothel. Even if it never grows back, I really don’t think that rapunzel’s power was inside her hair, it was always in her like her cousin Elsa! She just “lost” her power at the end of that movie because she was convinced she had, just my theory. :)

Mandy Moore finally gets her own tv show.

  3. Lysh says:

Flynn Rider is my animated crush so I’m excited to see more of him. And lots of great new cast joining!

  4. Jennifer says:

Holy cow … cast is fabulous. Thank god I have a kid that I can blame for DVRing this! (ha ha. Like i need an excuse)

  5. iHeart says:

oh man stop them before they get to Frozen

  6. tsevca says:

I´d rather see a sequel than show. Only few of them are good.
