Blair Underwood ABC Divorce Law Pilot Reese Witherspoon

Blair Underwood Cast in ABC Drama Pilot Produced by Reese Witherspoon

Move over, Annalise Keating.

Blair Underwood has been cast as a sexy, cutthroat law professor in ABC’s upcoming divorce-law drama pilot, TVLine has learned.

The potential series, known for now as Broken, follows the as-yet-uncast Gemma, a ruthless Dallas divorce attorney who doesn’t know how to handle it when her emotional mess of a sister comes back into her life.

Underwood will play James, Gemma’s boss and occasional lover who was her teacher and mentor for years. He’s the reason she’s so good at her job… and he’s also the only person who’s not afraid to criticize his former pupil.

The cast also includes T.R. Knight (Grey’s Anatomy), Penelope Ann Miller (American Crime) and Charity Wakefield (The Player). Oppenheimer (Fear the Walking Dead) will write the pilot and executive-produce alongside Reese Witherspoon (Wild) and Bruna Papandrea (Gone Girl).

L.A. Law alum Underwood, whose TV resumé includes Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.The New Adventures of Old Christine and Sex and the City, will next be seen when he guest-stars on The Good Wife‘s March 20 episode.

  1. PriceIsRightCancelled says:

Blair Underwood needs his own show to become a huge hit. He had his share of failed ones from LAX to Ironside.

  2. Guy says:

Is ABC trying to make their entire schedule soapy nonsense? We’re gonna end up losing American Crime, one of the best dramas on TV, for something like this that we’ve all pretty much seen before.

  3. Carol_R says:

I foresee a failure. Blair Underwood IMO isn’t leading man material. Why not cast a really good actor like Idris Elba instead?

  4. Tara P. says:

Looking forward to this! I’ll watch & read anything he puts out. Been a fan since Krush Groove.
