Side effects of Gretchen Mol‘s latest role could include memory loss, mistaken identity and mayhem.
Mol will play Jaclyn Blackstone, described by Deadline as “the kind of woman who can make sane men do insane things.” She’s married to “an abusive Oakland homicide detective,” but “claims to have a secondary personality who will not allow her to leave.”
Laurie (House, M.D.) will play the titular role of Eldon Chance, a forensic neuropsychiatrist who embarks on an affair with Jaclyn after she comes to his office with complaints of blackouts and memory loss.
Chance — based on Kem Nunn’s novel of the same name — has scored a two-season, 20-episode order at Hulu, launching in 2016.
The series’ behind-the-scenes team will include Laurie and Nunn — as well as showrunner Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives, the U.S. version of Prime Suspect), producer Michael London (The Astronaut Wives Club) and director Lenny Abrahamson (Room).
