TV Land will soon be casting three women who A) look great in white and B) can slay a karaoke performance of “You Don’t Own Me.”
The cable network has given a formal pilot order to The First Wives Club, a series based on Paramount Pictures’ 1996 film (which was adapted from Olivia Goldsmith’s bestseller).
The movie centered on three women — played by Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn — who, after reuniting for their college friend’s funeral, make a pact to get back at their ex-husbands.
In TV Land’s contemporary take, which will be set in modern-day San Francisco, the women will band together after their friend dies in a freak accident (as opposed to the film, which found Stockard Channing’s Cynthia taking her own life). When they discover they are all at a romantic crossroads, they join forces to tackle divorce, relationships and life’s other annoying challenges.
Rebecca Addelman (New Girl) will write the script, with Jenny Bicks (Sex and the City) set to executive-produce.
Will you watch a First Wives Club series? And who should star in it? Sound off in the comments with your casting suggestions!

Heather Locklear would great in Goldie’s role.
That would be ironic as she played the new woman of the hubby whom former wife committed suicide that band the 3 main characters together for revenge.
Stana Katic in Goldie’s role.
Denise Richards
Heather Locklear as Elise (Goldie Hawn). Not sure about the other two yet but I will research and report back shortly.
Ok I got another one. Joely Fisher as Brenda (Bette Midler).
And finally, Peri Gilpin as Annie (Diane Keaton). So to sum up, we have Heather Locklear, Joely Fisher, and Peri Gilpin.
This is a great lineup! Joely Fisher and Peri Gilpin are both hysterical and Heather Locklear will make a good foil. And Sarah Steele who plays Alicia’s “body woman” would be perfect as the gay daughter.
Oh my gosh yes that would be perfect!
Excellent casting choices!
Eva La Rue as Annie played by Diane Keaton
Jodie Fisher as Brenda played by Bette Midler
Jeri Ryan as Elise played by Goldie Hawn
It’s been said a few times already, but they have to be looking at Heather Locklear for the Goldie Hawn part! The casting is too perfect not to be.
I also would suggest Kathy Najimy for Brenda.
If she’s willing to go blond or at least get highlights, I also think that Teri Hatcher would work for Elise (Goldie Hawn)
Kathy Najimy is on the older end of the spectrum to play the role, but OMG what an inspired freakin’ choice!
Cheryl Hines, Rachel Dratch and Janeane Garofalo
Is it weird that I kinda thought of Megan Mullally in Bette Midler’s role?
LIsa Kudrow in the Goldie part. Marcia Cross in the Diane Keaton part. Queen Latifah in the Bette role.
Nice! Brenda Strong would also work in the Diane Keaton role.
Donna Lynne Champlin from Crazy Ex Girlfriend.
So tired of all the remakes. Very, very tired.
Personally, I like Sutton Foster for Goldie’s role.
Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, and Wendie Malick. Maybe they can cast Betty White as a wisecracking senior citizen. Oh…wait a minute…
Lucy Lawless!
According to NBC, she’s too old to reprise her role as Xena, so she’d be great in Elise’s role as a washed up actor. Also, she looks amazing in white and surprisingly has an incredible singing voice.
I could also see Vanessa Williams as Elise, she’s been playing the villain for awhile, but she does clueless and vain well :)
I loved the movie, but I’ll only watch the series if it’s a multi camera show. I don’t like this single camera trend.
Vanessa Williams
Megan Mullally
Carrie Preston
Lisa Kudrow in Goldie’s role
Mega Mulally in Bette’s role
Wendy Malick in Diane’s role. Perfect cast, 0 chances of cancellation
My other option would be: Meg Ryan for the Diane Keaton part, Vanessa Williams for the Goldie part, Mare Winningham for the Bette role.
Would definately watch it !Great idea!
I would cast:
As first wives: Lauren Graham, Sara Rue, Aisha Tyler, Retta,
As ex-husbands: Matthew Fox, Blair Underwood and Matt Dillon
As new love interests: Nick Zano, Jordan Peele, Seamus Deever, Steve Harvey, etc
Focused on the revenge part of divorces, it would be great dramedy. But what they describe sounds like any other storyline of middle aged woman on TV.
