Stacey Dash Oscars 2016

Stacey Dash Addresses Her Bizarre Oscars Appearance — Watch Video

Stacey Dash left viewers feeling a little clueless during Sunday’s Oscars.

The actress-turned-Fox News pundit — who recently waged a feud with BET — made a surprise appearance during the 88th annual Academy Awards, introduced by host Chris Rock as the “director of our new minority outreach program.”

Dash, literally cackling as she emerged from the wings, looked out to the audience and proclaimed, “I cannot wait to help my people out. Happy Black History Month!” Then, just as quickly as she appeared, she vanished into the shadows. Check it out:

Following the incident, a blog post appeared on, penned by Dash, explaining the “why” and “how” of it all. After reminding her readers that she recently spoke out against both Black History Month and the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, she added:

When they added ME to increase the diversity, I’m sure many black people rolled their eyes. I’m not “black enough,” they say. But guess what? I’ve heard that all my life. I would rather be a free thinking, black than a cookie cutter black who thinks – and votes – just like all my friends.

OK, so she doesn’t really explain the “how” or the “why,” but the blog post is still an interesting read. As we all make sense of what transpired on our televisions tonight, please enjoy Shonda Rhimes’ take on #Dashgate:

  1. NatesMama says:

    I thought it was genius.

  2. Oh God, I’m still feeling the awkwardness from this moment.

  3. Diane says:

It would have worked a smudge better if she said nothing and stood there for a while.

  4. Karen says:

Chris Rock needs to let it go now. We get it, there was a diversity backlash this year

    • Alrisha says:

      Right? Enough is enough!

      • Michael says:

I know right Arlisha & Karen. I mean just imagine how black people feel! They have to be over this whole racism thing, RIGHT! LMFAO

    • David4 says:

I know right? Blacks have only been treated like crap for hundreds and hundreds of years, we slaves and treated worse than animals. They should let it go through because it makes whites uncomfortable for a few minutes.

      • Don says:

“hundreds and HUNDREDS of years” “WE SLAVES”….lMfao….self-loathing imbeciles.

      • Roxybaby says:

@David4—-Your an idiot who does not even live in reality! The only enslavement you are under is from yourself in staying completely ignorant.

  5. Marques says:

For the confused folks, just google her name and Black History Month. Then it’ll make sense

    • tvjunkie says:

Her argument makes sense when you consider there’s no history month for any other race or any religion or any sexual orientation, etc. It take us back to the days of rampant segregation.

      • tshanail says:

But there are months for other races…

        • Annie says:

And also genders. Isn’t it great when idiots won’t even do a Google search before speaking.

          • tvjunkie says:

If you have to Google to find them then you’ve already proven my point. Everyone knows about black history month. The others aren’t on the same level. It’s like comparing the New York Yankees to a low level minor league baseball team in terms of visibility, recognition and such. If you ask 100 random people to name other months other than Black History month I would bet you most would struggle to name any or at most more than 1 or 2. Simply put for all intents an purposes they don’t exist, because they’re not remotely on the same level.

      • Anna says:

What are you talking about? There’s a National Hispanic Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, Jewish American History Month, LGBT Pride Month…the list goes on.

      • kevstar says:

Fail! June is Gay Pride Month.

  6. Susie says:

Really are people still upset that she’s a Republican? It’s nice to know that liberal you can be whatever you want Hollywood doesn’t actually practise what it preaches.

    • Eh says:

It’s not that she’s a Republican. It’s the fact that she’s denying hundreds of years of history and is happily, willfully ignorant. She is a paid token.

Things aren’t simple. Apply some critical thinking, geez.

      • Ann says:

She isn’t denying anything. She just thinks it’s time to move on. And she calls out the hypocrisy of black people who cry foul about Oscar being so white and the lack of diversity of the awards while embracing the lack of diversity in the Image Awards or anything on BET. She’s right.

        • Michael says:

You do realize that the Image awards and BET were created by the black community for recognition of blacks because of institutional racism…😱

          • Lucifer says:

It doesn’t matter what the times were like, it’s what the times are now and it’s time for change and for everyone to unite.

        • If you get mad at pro black people…for being…pro black, and risking their lives, livelihood, reputation, jobs, and freedom…to FIGHT FOR YOU…You are not worthy to receive the benefits, knowledge, wisdom, and freedom that our sacrifices have afforded you….That’s Stacy Dash!!!

          • Roxybaby says:

And yet to be pro white would be considered racist! That fight ended many years ago, unfortunately some blacks don’t seem to understand this, get over selves and move on.

        • Kay says:

Wow she’s ridiculous. We have those things BECAUSE of the lack of diversity.

        • Rachel says:

If mainstream media would be more inclusive of all ethnicities, then there would be no need for etnic specific award shows and networks. Hollywood is still producing movies that are using white actors to portray blacks, latinos, and asians.

      • Ed young says:

Lol, hilarious comment. You do realize that if there was more diversity and inclusion in mainstream media and other outlets, there would be no need for a black history or NAACP for that matter. All looks good from the catbird seat doesn’t it.

      • Don says:

She doesn’t hate herself for being black…unlike some.

      • Gloating Rich Guy says:

Blacks have fought hard for decades to be the puppets of,white liberals, how dare Stacy Dash think for herself! It’s an outrage.

    • I have no issue with her being a republican, I hold issue with some of her comments that I guess you could say are conservative.

    • tvjunkie says:

Well yes, being black and a republican is pretty much the equivalent of being a ISIS terrorist in the eyes of the (mostly liberal) black community. It’s always been that way. Black people have fought long an hard over time for freedoms, like the ability to make their own choices and yet they’re largely hypocritical when it comes to the treatment of those who do think for themselves, like Stacy.

  7. donell1000 says:

So I’m watching the Oscars on channel 7 and Chris Rock has Stacey Dash walk out on stage and say “Happy Black History Month” and walk off. When she walked out, nobody clapped at all. If that isn’t the academy saying “to hell with you and your complaints on the lack of diversity”, I don’t know what is. It’s not funny when racism goes from covert to overt and using a ignorant black female to do it. Burn, Hollywood, BURN!!!

    • Wendy says:

These are the same people who spoke out against her when she endorsed Mitt Romney. Is there really any surprise they won’t clap for a female black conservative? How much more diverse can you get in a group of old white liberal men?

      • Blerg says:

Holy crap. The problem isn’t who she endorsed. The problem is her lack of logic and misapplication of facts.

        • Wendy says:

My point about her being a conservative in a room full of liberals is more on the subject of tolerance of others; Not that she is the best voice on the subject. It seems to me that the views coming out of Hollywood lately seem to be in an echo chamber. Step out of their norm are you are dead to them. Was the bit funny? Not really. Was she the best choice for a bit on race relations? No. But it really is just another way of Hollywood discrimination.

          • kevstar says:

If being conservative in the Black community was so taboo , there would be a line of people with pitchforks and Mrs. Dash wouldn’t have made it out of the Dolby Theatre alive. So, obviously, you CAN be a black conservative.

        • Ann says:

I agree with Wendy. Hollywood liberals are completely intolerant. She is a black conservative. There’s nothing wrong with that. Her views are fine. They are her opinions, and, frankly, I’m glad she doesn’t just follow the pack of liberal hypocrites like George Clooney who calls out for more a more diverse Hollywood, yet, I cannot think of any movie he has produced or directed that starred a black person or even had a diverse cast, for that matter. He’s a hypocrite! At least Stacy Dash is honest and says what she thinks.

What made the bit funny is that she would probably be the last person that liberal Hollywood would think of to be the diversity outreach whatever…You can disagree with her views…but at least she understands the hypocrisy of being a black conservative and can take in all the insults with humor by coming onto that stage for that awkwardly funny bit.

          • tvjunkie says:

Liberals are extremely hypocritical on the subject of tolerance. Their idea of tolerance is believe as they do or else we will beat you to a pulp (usually figuratively, but sometimes literally).

    • Danny Las Vegas says:

She’s black? Like, in a Michael Jackson sort of way?

    • Geo says:

I suspect that nobody clapped at all because nobody knew who she was and the joke didn’t work. I’m not sue who thought Stacey Dash was a household name, but as is pretty obvious from this comment section, a lot of people saw this as a WTF moment and had to ask who Dash even was. If it has to be explained here, on a site that’s all about the entertainment industry and where readers are usually pretty up-to-date on these things, and people are advising others in this comment section that they have to do a web search for “Stacey Dash” just to get the joke, then most people in the Oscars crowd probably didn’t clap because like most viewers they were like “what the heck was that supposed to be?”

  8. marshonica says:

Where was that bear when we needed him?

  9. TV Gord says:

It takes the heat off of Chris’ barely funny monologue, so…. (And I love his standup, usually.)

  10. John036 says:

I’m not able to watch the Oscars this year because I’m studying for an exam, but yikes just reading what she said made me feel uncomfortable lol

  11. Eh says:

It’s not that you’re not black enough, Stacy. It’s because you are a token and what’s sad is that you weren’t in on the joke. They were laughing at you, not with you.

  12. Archie says:

Shonda’s tweet makes absolutely no sense.

    • TheIVth says:

I thought I was the only that noticed that

    • modwildtv says:

Thank you. And she’s an entertainment god. She had fashion goals for Stacy Dash’s dress. WTH does that even mean? That’s not the statement I’D pick to put the Dash deal to rest.

  13. Don says:

This is hilarious…don’t you just love how all these ultra-privileged Hollywood, multi-millionaire twits (white AND BLACK) are going at each other! Self-loathing blacks biting the hand of pandering Hollywood…the “Oscar” goes to ALL OF THEM !

  14. David4 says:

If you need several paragraphs explaining your joke then it’s a failure.

  15. jj says:

this was such a random moment. Would have been better if the winners had a couple more seconds for their speeches instead

  16. Et al. says:

    She’s a disgusting woman.

  17. Joan says:

I could literally feel myself crinch in my seat for just how embarrassing this was for this thick skin, ignorant, attention Seeking Oh so shallow a woman @ Stacey Dash.Worst thing about her is just how talentless she is and So so fake!

  18. Auss says:

It was weird as heck but it’s a shame people like shonda rehimes oustrisizes her just for not jumping on all the black stuff bandwagon.

    Sorry autocorrect

  19. Paloma says:

Here’s my plug for diversity: March is Women’s History Month, which will be completely ignored by everyone. And March 8th is International Women’s Day, the UN Day women’s rights and world peace, both scarce commodities around the world.

  20. Jerri says:

Please please please let her endorse Donald Trump. Or better yet. Have him make her his running mate.

    • Wendy says:

You have already been given your wish. Though she hasn’t endorsed Trump she is a supporter of his. He is a cult of personality, and she has already drank the cool-aide.

  21. lostom66 says:

The best from both, what’s in your DNA?

  22. chaosrainz says:

For the most part, I like Stacey Dash…I don’t always agree with her but I have to admit, THIS is weird and I can only imagine most people of color who were there felt like this was a huge slap in the face considering they don’t agree with her EVER. I’m a bit shocked really.

  23. Do I need to break it down for you. says:

    Here’s the joke:

The oscars are so white that they brought in a black person who denies black history month to head up their diversity initiative.

Stacy Dash is just so dumb that she doesn’t understand she is the butt of that joke. You’re welcome.

    • tvjunkie says:

She doesn’t deny black history month. She’s saying it is outdated. There are many reasons for which it is. Among them, no other group (of any sort of makeup) has a history month, so in that sense it’s supporting segregation.

  24. Ron B. says:

An Oscar presentation doesn’t make you a scientist Leo. Drop the climate change BS. Its over. It’s a myth, an outright lie.The Arctic and Antarctic ice fields are larger than they have been in recent memory. Stick with acting.

  25. Temperance says:

Dash is always bizarre – mentally damaged and, well, ahem, clueless.

  26. Well, that was… bizarre.

Also, I feel your pain, Shonda! That dress was way too gorgeous to waste it on a five seconds cameo.

  27. Brenda says:

Her comments were not as ridiculous as others …Chris Rock and Leo to name a few.

  28. black racism is alive and well in hollywood!

  29. Not a sheep says:

All of Hollywood are hypocrites. They demand you give your money away and help the poor and yet demand $20 million a picture. They demand diversity and have all of this money and where are the films they created for diverse actors? No where. They should put up or shut up. Stacy Dash may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but at least she isn’t a hypocrite.

  30. Roxybaby says:

The only thing awkward and or strange is how so many people are allowing the disgusting charade to go own at the Oscars to begin with, there is a time and place to address issues of racism that may be perceived, the Oscars is not one of them and should not be used for an agenda. And as far as Stacy Dash, I agree with her and I applause her.

  31. DDlong says:

Why would Chris Rock be associated with that idiot?
