Ratings: Madam Secretary, Good Wife Rise to Season Highs

Leading out of an NFL playoffs-boosted 60 Minutes (12.3 mil/4.7), CBS’ Madam Secretary this Sunday drew 11.3 million total viewers and a 2.0 rating, surging to a best-since-premiere audience and a season high in the demo.

Likewise, the 10 pm Good Wife (8.1 mil/1.2) rose two tenths in the demo to hit a season high.

Elsewhere in the ratings….

ABC | Galavant averaged 2.3 mil and a 0.6, hitting and matching series lows.

NBC | Democratic debate coverage drew 8.7 million total viewers, up a tick from the November face-off (which CBS aired on a Saturday) and well shy of CNN’s boffo October Dems debate (which did a record 15.3 mil).

FOX | The Simpsons (4 mil/1.8) and Cooper Barrett’s Guide (2.6 mil/1.2) dropped sharply from last week’s NFL-boosted numbers. Family Guy (3.4 mil/1.6) slipped 13 and 11 percent, while Bordertown (2.6 mil/1.2) fell 28 and 20 percent.

The only reason I enjoy so much on a Sunday: playoff football.

Love Good Wife and Madam Sec.! My plea, is to the writing team at The Good Wife:

      – Release Alicia from Peter!
      – Original cast screen time, automatically increases, (due to the dissolution of the bad marriage)
      – Alicia strengthens ties to her children, mom, brother, (due to the break up)
      – Alicia and Eli’s friendship heals, as the root of her hurt is truly Peter and not voicemail deletion

Please make it happen. Ratings will soar and your once critically acclaimed tv drama, will be restored!

Although I enjoy fewer reruns on the “regular” shows, so far ABC’s split schedule a disaster this winter Go Mme. Secretary. Hope GW numbers in the ate spot may be a od sign for Elementary

    • ABG says:

Galavant in particular shouldn’t have been renewed (based on ratings alone, I haven’t actually watched it and can’t say if it’s good or not).

  3. The Watcher says:

Galavant has been a gem. I’m still flabbergasted they gave us season 2, but I’m enjoying every rare and wonderful moment of it. Please let there be a 3rd season! It’s too good and provides a tonal diversity that you don’t really get to see on TV anymore.

Madam Secretary just gets better and better. I think TEA should be nom’d for an emmy, but you know she won’t. She’s not dramatic enough.

    • HAP says:

Are you referring to her acting on the show, or to the many comedy roles that she has had it the past? She has done some drama in the cinema, as well as movies billed as comedy/ drama.

  5. MissEllys says:

Galavant is clearly the half brother of CW’s Crazy Ex Girlfriend

  6. Gerald says:

Cary + Alicia – Election crap = Ratings.

  7. Shaun says:

Galavant is awesome, continue!Forest of Coincidence :D

  8. Anna says:

Galavant is amazing, so this is sad. I really doubt that we’ll get a third season (okay, it was a long shot anyway…).
But I do really love Madam Secretary this season! This last episode was amazing! There can never be enough Blake in an episode; still hoping we’ll get a Blake-centric episode one of these days, but this last one was pretty great already.

  9. EllenAce says:

Love TGW, but the writers must allow Alicia to divorce, start a new, increase screen time of original cast and ratings will soar! It’ll be back to critically acclaimed status in no time, for seasons 8 and beyond!

  10. EllenAce says:

CBS Fan – Love “The Good Wife”, and “Madam Secretary!” Can’t imagine TGW ending on season 7 and that these shows may no longer follow one another, in the near future. I’m making a plea to the writers at TGW, to release Alicia from Peter! He’s already reoccurring, and can visit either Grace or Zack, when he’s home from college. Ironically, the divorce is a powerful act, as it will automatically free up her screen time with the remaining original cast. She’ll also realize that her dysfunctional union, was the root problem and not so much Eli’s voicemail deletion, allowing for much needed healing between the two.
