Bates Motel Season 4: First Teaser Features Chilling Homage to Psycho

Bates Motel finally appears to be heading down the drain — so to speak — in Season 4.

A&E on Sunday released a 30-second teaser for the upcoming run of episodes, which finds Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga’s characters literally staring down the barrel of a gun as they scream to each other in the dark. For an added creep factor, the whole ordeal is set to an unsettling cover of Diana Ross and the Supremes’ “Where Did Our Love Go?”

And let’s not overlook that last shot of a very familiar shower floor. (It certainly wouldn’t be the only Psycho foreshadowing the show’s given us.)

Bates Motel returns March 7 at 9/8c, leading into the premiere of A&E’s Omen-based drama Damien. Jaime Ray Newman (Veronica MarsDrop Dead Diva) will recur heavily as Rebecca Hamilton, a former love of Alex’s who still carries a torch for him.

  1. I hope the show follows the way Norman kills his mother as seen in Psycho IV, and that Alex ends up being her boyfriend he also kills as seen in that version. It would be a good ending.

in the org, Psycho movie, Norman had killed his mother but he saw her in his head. I remember hearing adult women saying they won’t shower when home alone. I was about 9 or so when the movie was out.

I am hopeful for the exact same turn out lol It would fit so well.

    Very excited for this!!!

I’m wondering if the show is going to conclude with Norman killing Norma, or if it will happen earlier and a portion of the show (maybe the whole final season?) will be the aftermath of Norma’s death. As long as they find a way for Vera Farmiga to still be a part of it via flashbacks or visions.

  4. So far the creators and writers have gotten it right. I hope they will fill in a lot of blanks that the film Psycho hinted at. When Norma eventually gets taken out, how does it affect Norman? Are there other hotel guests that try to snoop and get killed? How many cars are there in the bottom of that infamous lake? There is a lot of fertile territory that they can explore until Marion Crane shows up. I agree completely with the comment that said the show needs to end with Marion driving up to the hotel. If A&E is smart, the night the show ends they will slot the original “Psycho” right after. Can’t wait for the 4th season.

Ooooh. Good promo. As if I weren’t already excited enough for the new season to start. Can’t wait to see what season 4 will bring.

When the show does come to an end I think the best homage in a final shot is to time jump Norman older and use Anthony Perkins in the Final shot after all He is Norman.
