Kristen Bell NBC Series

Kristen Bell, Ted Danson Set to Star in Mike Schur's New NBC Comedy Series

Set your DVRs now: Kristen Bell has signed on to headline a new NBC comedy series from Parks and Recreation boss Mike Schur. Oh, and Ted Danson‘s in it too.

TVLine has learned that the TV vets will star in Good Place, NBC’s straight-to-series sitcom that centers on Bell’s character Eleanor, a New Jersey woman who comes to realize that she hasn’t been a very good person. She decides to turn over a new leaf by learning what it actually means to be “good” or “bad,” and then trying to make up for her past behavior.

Danson plays Michael, who, through an unlikely set of circumstances, comes to be Eleanor’s guide through her self-designed self-improvement course.

Contractually, Good Place is not in second position to Bell’s current current role on Showtime’s House of Lies. In other words, if Lies gets renewed for a sixth season, Bell likely will juggle both series. Danson, meanwhile, would depart CSI: Cyber as a regular should it be renewed as his deal was always just for one season.

Bell has a history with Schur; she recurred on Parks and Rec as Leslie’s crosstown rival Ingrid de Forest.

    This is everything.

    • JC says:

Lol. If Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell were not white in a racist industry, they would not be given chance after chance to fail over and over again.

      • Jamie says:

Really? I’m black, and I find Kristen Bell hilarious. I loved her arc on Parks and Rec. And Dax Shepard was very good on Parenthood – that role suited him well.

        • JC says:

And? There are ignorant “black” people like yourself just as there are many ignorant “white” people. It does not change the fact that “non-white” actors with more presence are kicked to the curb faster than “white” hacktors like Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell who deserve to be.

          • Reality says:

LOLZ…so people can’t have their own opinions? Your cup of tea is not for all. WWJCD?

          • Jamie says:

Kind of confused how liking an actor who has had plenty of hits (Frozen, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Veronica Mars, House of Lies, etc.) makes me ignorant. There is absolutely a dearth of actors of color in popular media, but Kristen Bell is plenty talented, and there are clearly a number of people who are entertained by her work. Just because you aren’t a fan doesn’t mean you have to act like an angry child in comment sections. Because only one person is coming off as ignorant here, hun.

      • mrmcgee says:

While I agree the industry is racist, how have they failed over and over again? House of Lies and Parenthood have been hits.

I’m black also, but your argument missed the mark. Example: Meagan Good and Taye Diggs have had multiple hits and misses also and still pop up every fall.

      • Jeri says:

I’m a big fan of Dax & Kristins. I think you read the wrong article if you are not. Kristin is clearly referenced in the title. Bringing race into this just shows you are trying to get attention. Look for an article you’re a fan of instead of the opposite.

  2. Steven says:

Michael, you got your wish! Ted Danson and Kristen Bell in a Mike Schur comedy? Someone pinch me!

  3. webly3 says:

Hopefully both of their respective shows they already star on will be canceled then.

  4. Aly says:

This is all kinds of excellent!

  5. Dean says:

Damn guess this means house of lies is done if Kristen is doing another tv show.

    • Will says:

Ted Danson balanced CSI and Fargo. Laurence Fishbone did it with Black-ish and Hannibal. Those weren’t necessarily leading roles, and Bell is a lead for both of her shows. Her role on House of Lies would probably be diminished, which I wouldn’t mind. As long as she stops by every once in a while to verbally eviscerate Doug, I’ll be happy.

      • John036 says:

Wasn’t Laurence was recurring during the first season of Black-ish?

        • Will says:

Yeah, but both actors split time between shows filmed in California (Black-ish & CSI) and Canada (Hannibal & Fargo). If they could do that, I don’t see why Bell wouldn’t be able to film both shows in California (I’m assuming that this will be filmed in California, because it’s a network sitcom). If Bell wants to do both shows, I’m sure she could do both and leave Dax with the kids.

          • Jeri says:

Speaking of Blackish, is the character of Dave off the show now that he quit the agency? I will really miss him if so. I like Wanda Sikes but would prefer Dave stay. I really did not like him at first but became a huge fan.

    • rawley says:

She was able to find time to do a little movie called Frozen at the same time as House of Lies. I’m sure it’ll be fine.

    • shaun says:

Technically no,she has an option in her contract that allows her to do other things.Guess she could fit it in.

  6. Jennifer says:

I guess that spells the end of CSI: Cyber? If Danson is moving to not only a new show, but a new network?

    • jazzyt2u says:

CSI Cyber can survive without him. He wasn’t there in the beginning and he wasn’t in the last episode. It was like they were grooming someone else to join the group…

      • JC says:

CSI Cyber may be able to survive without Danson, but it can’t survive at its current ratings level, which is DFL for dramas on CBS. CSI Cyber has been a dead show walking since October.

      • Sandy Duncan's Eye on Network TV says:

CSI: Cyber is a ratings disaster and is being pulled from CBS schedule in favor of Elementary in March. Cyber was only picked up because of Patricia Arquette’s inexplicable Oscar win for Boyhood…which failed to bring any traction to the dreadful show

    • David4 says:

The ratings are poor anyways and he probably knows it’s a goner.

  7. Maria says:

Michael, will this debut in the fall?

  8. ABG says:

So CSI is done, if it wasn’t already obvious because of the poor ratings.

I loved Parks so I’ll give this one a chance for sure.

  9. Marc says:

    Sounds like ‘Selfie’

    • Amelia says:

It does! And I liked selfie. Suffered from an awful title.

    • Tony says:

My very first thought. Networks/showrunners aside, it would be cool to see them sitting next each other in a cafe and picking up on the coaching occurring between mentor and mentee….LOL

  10. Erica says:

Sounds exactly like “Samantha Who” without the amnesia

  11. rawley says:

Kristen Bell + Mike Shur?! YES PLEASE

  12. Gerald says:

Sounds Like “My Name is Earl” but with a prettier lead.

  13. David4 says:

No!!!! I want a Veronica Mars Netflix sequel. :)

    Otherwise this seems super awesome!

  14. Kate says:

it sounds a little like Selfie which was amazing

  15. I know KB has been talking about how much she loves Ted Danson forever, so I guess this is a dream come true for her. And I hope this would open up more opportunity for more VERONICA MARS series.

  16. Charissa29 says:

I would watch Kristen Bell in anything! So yay!

  17. Lucky says:

Awesome news. I love Kristen Bell. I’ll definitely be watching.

  18. Wondering whether RYAN HANSEN would appear on her show….

  19. CPav says:

    Or “My Name is Earl”.

  20. maregolden says:

I think they should have Dax Shepard join the cast. I love them in those commercials they do together.

  21. steven says:

Sounds like a female version of My Name Is Earl. I wish they’d bring that show back.

  22. Judy Dunston says:

    Sounds like “Selfie”

  23. Et al. says:

Shouldn’t the title be Chicago Good Place?

  24. John Longo says:

Never has a headline elicited an “Oh I’m watching that!” faster than this headline.

  25. Alicia says:

This overview sounds like a snorefest. How did they lure the great Ted Danson into this?

  26. mayiread says:

Does this sound a little like Samantha Who?
This cast is fantastic. Sign me up.

  27. Mike B. says:

premis sounds meh, but mike schur and kristen bell? count me in

  28. Sean says:

Yeah get out of Cyber Ted it’s done!

  29. Leanne says:

love Ted Danson. He was great on CSI and so much better than Arquette on cyber. He should be the lead. I will definitely watch this one. Loved Becker. It was so funny

  30. matty says:

So basically a female centric version of My Name Is Earl?

  31. Diz says:

Doesn’t sound very appealing to me.

  32. Pamela says:

I had no idea Ted danson only had a one year deal with csi cyber. I loved csi but didn’t like csi cyber so not a big loss though, I’ll definitely tune in to this new show.

  33. Stacy says:

Kristen Bell and Ted Danson!! Yaaaay!!!! To sum it up: just tell me when it airs!

  34. mrmcgee says:

    My Name is Eleanor.
