Jeffrey Donovan Hulu

TVLine Items: Jeffrey Donovan to Lead Hulu Series, TNT Axes Home and More

We’ve seen Jeffrey Donovan‘s future, and it involves a starring role on Hulu’s next original series.

The Burn Notice/Fargo alum has been cast in Shut Eye, a dark comedy about the underground world of Los Angeles storefront psychics and the organized crime syndicate that runs them.

Donovan will star as Charlie Haverford, a failed magician who now works as a psychic and con man overseeing a number of the city’s fortune-telling parlors. When he suffers a blow to the head, Charlie begins to question everything he has ever believed and is urged by his wife to break out on his own.

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* TNT has opted not to move forward with its drama pilot Home, about the secrets lingering behind the façade of a seemingly idyllic suburban family. According to Deadline, the project — which starred Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill), JoBeth Williams (Poltergeist), Harris Dickinson (Some Girls) and Sawyer Barth (Black Box) — is being shopped to other networks.

* Weezer and The Backstreet Boys will serve as Undateable‘s musical guests on the Jan. 15 and Jan. 29 episodes, respectively.

* Banshee vet Antony Starr has been cast in American Gothic, CBS’ upcoming murder-mystery about a prominent Boston family that makes a chilling discovery about its recently deceased patriarch. Per Deadline, Starr will play Garrett, the family’s firstborn son who returns home in the wake of his father’s death, after inexplicably leaving town 17 years ago.

* HBO will exclusively present the Broadway play Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, starring Audra McDonald as Billie Holiday, on Saturday, March 12.

  2. Amy says:

Is this new American Gothic in any way related to the American Gothic that Gary Cole was in?

  3. Aww says:

Someone should tell CBS that they already had a show called “American Gothic” once upon a time, and whatever this new one turns out to be, that one will still be better.

  4. Lauren says:

Ok, I just figured out the guy from Burn Notice is the jerky brother on Fargo. Oh man, he looks so different in Fargo! Kudos to his acting skills, I never made the connection that I knew him from other stuff.

  5. Shannon says:

Another show with Bethany Joy Lenz that’s gotten shut down before it’s started. :(

  6. cosmoman11 says:

I would prefer to have Antony Starr continuing in Banshee.

  7. Rachel says:

Jeez, Lenz can’t catch a break can she?

  8. Ashley says:

Ugh. Someone get Bethany Joy Lenz on a good show that’ll get picked up. She’s a fantastic actress and should be on something. The show didn’t grab my interest anyways, but I would’ve watched for her.

  9. militantgod says:

Antony Starr deserves better than CBS.

  10. HAP says:

I’m just wondering if Kevin Reilly is a mole Fox sent in to totally destroy the Turner networks.

  11. Megan says:

If the show opens with “I’m Charlie Haverford, and I used to be a magician” I might just have to subscribe to Hulu.

  12. Stacy says:

Bethany Joy Lenz is having a rough year! She’s a great actress. I’m really bummed I’m not getting the chance to see her in anything; she’s been off my screen too long. I hope she gets an awesome pilot soon.

Yay for Jeffery Donovan. Looking forward to it.
