It’ll soon be a dark and terrifying Night at TNT.
The network announced on Thursday that it is teaming up with Oscar-nominated director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) for a new two-hour horror block anchored by a reboot of Tales From the Crypt and set to launch in fall 2016.
Tales From the Crypt, based on the original EC Comics series as well as new stories, will be executive-produced by Shyamalan and his partner at Binding Edge Pictures, Ashwin Rajan.
“Night is definitely going to direct the first [episode], and we’ll see how that evolves,” TNT president Kevin Reilly said Thursday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena. “And we’re definitely going to utilize the underlying comics.”
HBO aired its own version of the creepy anthology series from 1989-1996. (Shyamalan’s reboot is not to be confused with the Tales From the Darkside pilot ordered by The CW last February.)
Shyamalan, whose summer chiller Wayward Pines was recently renewed for Season 2 by Fox, will curate additional short- and long-form storytelling that will fill out TNT’s night of suspense. The network will announce the block’s additional series in the coming months.
