You're the Worst Renewed

You're the Worst Renewed for Season 3

This is poised to be the very best Worst news of the day: FXX has renewed You’re the Worst for Season 3.

Series creator Stephen Falk meanwhile has inked a multi-year overall deal to write, develop and produce television projects for FX Networks and FX Productions.

“Stephen is one of the best new talents in comedy — as funny, thoughtful and original as You’re the Worst, and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next,” FX Networks and FX Productions original programming chief Nick Grad said in a statement. “You’re the Worst, already one of the most critically-acclaimed comedies on television, is also one of the most innovative, something Stephen and the cast will continue in the much-deserved third season. The daring turn this season, led by the honest and respectful portrayal of Gretchen’s depression, was a very courageous move for a comedy and another milestone for You’re the Worst.”

You’re the Worst Season 2 is currently unspooling Wednesdays at 10:30/9:30c, with the season finale (“The Heart Is a Dumb-Dumb”) set for Dec. 9. Season 3 will debut in Summer 2016.

I’m a little surprised. This season has been really bad so far and don’t expect much more for the rest of the season. Hopefully next year it can get back to form of season 1.

Wow! I thought for sure the lesser “Married” which was left on FX would get more seasons than its ratings deserved while the one shuffled off to FXX would be allowed one more season before it was quietly canceled. So, yay for you, FXX, and yay for us!

Can we talk about Aya Cash’s amazing and heartbreaking performance last night? The breakdown she had when Jimmy came back and built the fort around her and stayed with her. So powerful. As to those that haven’t enjoyed season two I must disagree. The show is about two broken people who find each other. It was obvious in season one how Jimmy was broken since he was the main focus of season one but not so much with Gretchen. Now though they live together and so we are now seeing the real Gretchen and we are seeing how she’s “flawed” and we are seeing how these two people have to work through their issues in order to grow together as a couple. This is real life stuff and like real life the show is funny at times and heartbreaking at others. And then contrast what’s happening with Gretchen and Jimmy with the relationship of Edgar and Dorothy where Edgar suffers from PTSD but is slowly rediscovering who he is and finding happiness. I think this season has been absolutely brilliant while maintaining it’s sense of humor and wrongness through Lindsay who has also grown (and after last night’s episode may be “growing” more).
