American Idol Original Judges Returning

TVLine Items: Alum Idol Judges Return, Celine Dion's Paris Tribute and More

American Idol‘s farewell season just got a little more pitchy, dawg.

Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell — who made up the Fox competition series’ judging panel for eight years — will be back for its 15th and final go-round.

“I’ve spoken to all of them recently, and we as a team have talked to them about coming back to do something for the final season,” Idol host Ryan Seacrest tells Access Hollywood. “They are going to do it, it’s just a matter of figuring what to do with them.”

American Idol returns for its swan song with a two-hour premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 8/7c.

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* Celine Dion will pay tribute to the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks during Sunday’s American Music Awards (ABC, 8/7c). She will perform a special rendition of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à L’Amour.”

* Heroes Reborn actor Greg Grunberg will guest-star on Life in Pieces as Mikey, the too-cool nephew of Joan and a former hero to Greg and Matt, EW.com reports.

* Disney XD has renewed its live-action comedy Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything for Season 2; it will premiere in 2016.

* Also renewed: Comedy Central’s stand-up show The Meltdown With Jonah and Kumail, which on Friday was picked up for an eight-episode third season.

  1. Dean says:

Fitting they they end with who they began. Half the reason I loved Idol was watching Cowell ridicule the wannabe singers who thought they were bigger than they thought.

  2. Zoe says:

I never thought anything would bring me back to Idol, even for the final season, but this… just might. Depends on how much they’re going to be utilized, I guess.

  3. Marcie says:

Good. It hasn’t been nearly as interesting without them. Hope they do a LOT.

  4. Marilyn says:

Oh, please, spare me from Randy this year. Remember, he stuck around more years than the others. And he was a terrible mentor.
