Jane Kaczmarek, Alan Ruck Recruited to Play Cooper Barrett's Parents

We haven’t met Cooper Barrett yet, but if his pedigree is any indication, he’s probably a hoot.

Fox’s midseason comedy Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life has cast Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle) and Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller’s Day OffBunheads) to play the title character’s parents, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Ruck and Kaczmarek will guest-star as Mark and Cindy Barrett, father and mother to Jack Cutmore-Scott’s (Kingsman: The Secret Service) Cooper and Justin Bartha’s (The New Normal) Josh.

The series follows Cooper, a guy a couple of years out of college who still hasn’t landed his dream job, who is crushing on his neighbor (played by Being Human‘s Meaghan Rath) and who gets into a lot of trouble with his roommates (Betas‘ Charlie Saxton and Ground Floor‘s James Earl) and his brother, Josh. The hook? Cooper shepherds the audience through his cautionary tale, hence the “guide” part of the title.

I’m actually extremely excited for this series. I think it stands a chance of being pretty good.

  2. BillyBobJohnson says:

Oh, come on! This would have been a perfect opportunity to reunite Kaczmarek with Bryan Cranston!

Wow, will be so awesome to see Alan Ruck on tv again-I’ve missed him!

I like the casting of the parents better than the premise which means I, probably, will skip it. It sounds like a grown up version of Ferris Bueller which was funny BECAUSE the title character was in high school.
