Schmidt's Father

New Girl: Peter Gallagher Cast as Schmidt's Father in Awesome O.C. Wink

Welcome to some seriously meta casting, bitch Schmidt.

Plumbing the depths of O.C. canon, New Girl has tapped Peter Gallagher to guest star as Schmidt’s (Max Greenfield) never-before-seen father, TVLine has learned exclusively.

O.C.As any self-respecting acolyte of Josh Schwartz’ late Fox soap knows, Greenfield portrayed the younger version of Gallagher’s The O.C. patriarch, Sandy Cohen.

Gallagher, who is currently recurring on The Good Wife, is set to appear in one episode of New Girl‘s upcoming fifth season, which is slated to debut in January. According to sources, Schmidt’s previously-introduced mother, played by SNL vet Nora Dunn, is not expected to appear in the episode.

  1. And as if to continue on the OC track, there’s a photo of McKenzie as Gordon in Gotham.

  2. aph1976 says:

I think this was clever casting

  3. Alicia says:

Peter Gallagher is such a formidable actor! What a fantastic choice!

  4. Joey Padron says:

Good choice to play his dad in the show. Looking forward to see Peter on the show.

  5. KC says:

I thought this was cancelled…soon enough

  6. Missy says:

    Genius! Love it! :D

  7. Bryce says:

Forgot he played a young Sandy because it’s been so long since I’ve been able to see The OC SINCE NETFLIX WONT GET ITS CRAP TOGETHER TO ACQUIRE IT

    • Josh says:

You can watch it on CW seed. Or buy the entire series on DVD.

      • Bryce says:

Don’t even pretend as if that’s a comparable viewing experience. If Netflix never acquires it, I’ll literally sooner die than watch it on one of those platforms. Netflix would be the only alternative, but even that is problematic.

        • Stacy says:

The term “diehard fan” usually means doing anything within your power to watch the show, not that you’d prefer to die rather than watching anywhere but Netflix – and even that is problematic, according to you.

  8. Matt C. says:

With all these show revivals and remakes, I’m holding out hope for an O.C. reunion series someday. I would love to see those characters again, I miss that show so much! I rewatch all 4 seasons every summer.

  9. RAGGEDT says:

Isn’t Gallagher actually recurring on Law & Order: SVU?

    • worthymagic says:

Peter Gallagher WAS on Law & Order SVU. He is currently on The Good Wife. There is a character on SVU that is the son of the character of the character he was on SVU.
