Quantico Renewed

Ratings: ABC's Quantico Holds Steady in Week 2, Even as Blood & Oil Slips

ABC’s Quantico in Week 2 drew 6.9 million total viewers and a 1.9 rating, dipping just 3 percent in audience while matching its premiere’s demo number — one of few freshman series to do so this fall.

In fact, the Priyanka Chopra-fronted FBI thriller was Sunday’s highest-rated drama (out of six).

Lead-in Blood & Oil however slipped 18 percent and two tenths from its own debut, to 5.2 mil/1.2. Opening ABC’s night, Once Upon a Time (5.3 mil/1.8) dipped 10 percent in audience while steady in the demo.

Elsewhere….

CBS | Pending adjustment due to NFL overrun/delays, Madam Secretary (11.9 mil/1.5) landed smack dab in the middle between its year-ago debut (14.7 mil/2.0) and its finale (9.7 mil/1.0). The Good Wife returned to 9.4 mil/1.2, down from its previous premiere (11.1 mil/1.4) but matching its May finale. CSI: Cyber christened its new time slot with 7 mil and a 1.0, down from its freshman finale (6.7 mil/1.2, on a Wednesday).

NBC | Sunday Night Football‘s coverage of the Cowboys/Saints game (21.1 mil/7.6) was up from last week’s fast nationals.

FOX | With an NFL lead-in, The Simpsons (6 mil/2.6) nearly doubled its premiere numbers, while Brooklyn Nine-Nine (4.1 mil/1.9), Family Guy (3.6 mil/1.7) and Last Man on Earth (3.3 mil/1.5) gained four, two and one tenths, respectively.

How are Limitless and Blindspot doing? Those are my favorites in the new crop, so far.

  2. Boiler says:

Dump Blood and OIl quickly, move Quantico up and hour and move Nashville to Sunday after it

    • dan says:

      Nope.
No reason to have Quantico go up against TWD.

      • Boiler says:

I assume you mean The Good Wife and I don’t think it would have any trouble competing. This may be one of the best new shows with Good Wife aging. It also would help Nashville

        • dan says:

No. The Walking Dead. No reason to risk it.

        • ttb120 says:

Nope. Pretty sure he means The Walking Dead as it starts next week.

        • Jlkajdflkadj says:

          Nope, he meant TWD.

        • Boiler says:

OK I see it now. That show not on my radar. I don’t see the risk anyway. Quantico is good

          • Patrick says:

Also, you trying to build a schedule that would strengthen Nashville, and ABC isn’t the business of doing that. I don’t watch Nashville, but I love Castle. We both have to enjoy this year, because those shows are probably done at the end of the season. I hope both have the lead time to do a good wrap up.

          • You don’t see the risk anyway? The 18-49 demo is coveted by advertisers and the Walking Dead is an 18-49 behemoth and will draw some of the Quantico demo away from live viewing. If you like Quantico, you don’t want it to move to 9:00 on Sundays.

    • zac says:

Why move it? It gets good ratings on it’s timeslot and it avoids The Walking Dead. Let Blood and Oil finish it’s course naturally.

    • Boiler says:

Also have another question. How many of you watch either show live straight through. If not it certainly doesn’t matter if moved

      • tvjunkie says:

The closest I come to live viewing of non-live shows (like sports/news) is starting them 15-30 minutes after they start, depending on it being 30min or hour long show. That way part of the show is already queued up on my DVR and will finish recording before I finish watching.

        • Ellinas1978 says:

Yeap that’s the only way to do it. Unless it’s HBO and Showtime. Those you can watch live. Starting drama shows 16-17 minutes after they start you hit “live” right during the last commercials and you are caught up.

      • Ellinas1978 says:

It does. Unless you have the DVR that records 6 at once you got to figure out what to record. Moving it to 9:00 you go up against Walking Dead, Homeland, and Leftovers (I guess the Good Wife too for those that watch it). 10:00 there is only the Affair, you can record the Talking Dead at the re-air and watch it over breakfast.

    • SayNay says:

If ABC was going to move Nashville, they would/should have done it two seasons ago when Revenge was still pulling decent numbers and whatever fledgling show (666 Park Ave, etc.) was sucking the air out of that timeslot. Anyway, Nashville is fine. Solid DVR numbers and just sold eppys for syndication on some small network channel.

    • Mr. Tran K says:

I think one of the new mid-season dramas on ABC should definitely fill the void on a Sunday night.

    • MyFairLady says:

I really like Blood and Oil..hope it does not drop much further…pilot was a mess but 2nd epi things are starting to come together

  3. Mr. Tran K says:

Quantico is the best new show on a Sunday night (KEEP IT COMING).

  4. Ninamags says:

Quantico is fantastic. Every one seems to have some sort of secret. I now doubt Simon is actually gay. He’s more interested in the twins than that hottie from The Flash. What language was the blonde girl speaking?

  5. kmw says:

Good for Quantico, that’s great it can stay steady with bad lead in. At least OUAT didn’t dip in demo. Nothing else surprising

  6. Amanda says:

So we should expect Quantico full season pickup by the end of the day now!!!!!!

  7. “CSI: Cyber christened its new time slot with 7 mil and a 1.0, down from its freshman finale (6.7 mil/1.2, on a Wednesday).” more people watched, but it’s down, heh. Ratings are like Hollywood economics. So, it means that more people that fall outside the desired age range watched, right?

    • tvjunkie says:

yeah it means more old people, which advertisers, for some reason, don’t care about watched and less younger people they do care about watched. I’m sure that’s based on some statistics/studies that show younger people buy more than old people, on average. Otherwise it wouldnt make sense.

      • Or it may be that young people 30-40 years ago were given a Nielsen box and now that they’re outside the age range they still have it because someone forgot to take it and give it to a new set of young people, heh.

  8. Ray says:

So how long before ABC pulls B&O? They wasted an inordinate amount of money promoting it. Its all I ever see advertised on the Tivo Central screen.

  9. JD says:

Quantico is dumb because you know the terrorist will end up being one of the white guys. This show wouldn’t risk being non-PC by making any of the minority characters (like the Muslim woman or the gay man or the black woman) a terrorist.

    • Patrick says:

I don’t know. I am really liking the African American woman as a terrorist at this point. She seems to harbor real resentment towards her bosses, and she was obviously demoted at some point between the training and the attack. And she would have been ideally situated to set up Alex Parrish from the word jump. Her facilitating the escape may be a red herring.

      • John NYC says:

Since the plot apparently extended from before Alex recruitment and Miranda got fired long after while she may be angry the timing doesn’t work. Plus her patsy, if she set up Alex, WAS in custody so why rescue Alex and expose her own participation that way?

Heck, a lot like last nights recreation test the whole thing so far may be messing with us and the real perpetrators have not even made an appearance or only been offhandedly referred to by similar “needles”, anybody see a Kentucky Wildcats jersey in the rubble?

    • RJ says:

I agree but there are more than a few white people on there so I don’t think it takes away from the suspense. Plus the gay guy might just be faking it.

      • John NYC says:

Simon is totally faking it, like the fake eyeglasses and the fake selfie and the odd story of his Gaza visit….

There’s needles and then there’s needles…. Hey maybe the analyst who IS gay? The actor had a significant role on the Flash so that’s sometimes a hint as to a character’s significance…..

The real key, as I see it, isn’t “PC” it’s misdirection and surprises.

  10. Jake L. says:

long until ABC flips Blood and Oil and Quantico so that their stronger performer airs in the 9pm slot?

    • LT says:

Nope…affiliates don’t want a weak show for their late news lead-in.

    • Ray says:

ABC would sooner cancel B&O than make that maneuver.

    • Moving Quantico to 9pm would put it directly against The Walking Dead, so probably not the best idea. Makes more sense to leave Quantico where it’s doing well, rather than risk it getting creamed. Blood and Oil is already a lost cause, so you might as well just leave it where it is.

      • lechatnoir says:

It will only loose a fews eyeballs, but you need to remember that Piggy Chops has a huge fan base abroad , she has millions and millions of devoted fans .They are all watching this show.

  11. Manav Gami says:

Priyanka Chopra is so good in Quantico!
    I loved this week’s episode.
Nice to hear it’s doing well in the 10pm Revenge slot. I honestly think if they moved it to thursday nights, it would do much better. Doubt that will happen.

  12. Sarah j says:

I like both Blood and Oil and Quantico.
I am a little worried about Blood and Oil.

  13. arial2 says:

With football on two networks, Sunday ratings don’t tell me much about how these shows are really doing. Nobody can outdraw NFL football, so it’s almost pointless to try to judge any of the scripted shows unless they’re on another night.

  14. DavidSask says:

Quantico is the smartest new show, its lead ins suck! Blindspot second best. Scream Queens, I know am bad still following! All the others no f**ks to give dumped them already. New CW show tbd.
