Doctor Who Spinoff Class

Doctor Who Spinoff Class, Aimed at Teen Audience, Premiering in 2016

The Doctor Who universe is about to get a touch of Class.

BBC Three on Thursday announced a spinoff to the wildly popular franchise set in present-day London, where “incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space. And with darkness coming, London is unprotected.”

Young adult author Patrick Ness will pen the drama series — eight 45-minute episodes airing in 2016 — which Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat likens to “growing up in modern Britain… but with monsters!”

As for Ness’ thoughts on the spinoff:

I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There’s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.

Much of Class‘ action will take place at Coal Hill School. But will you be enrolling? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.

So I suppose this is meant as a sort of replacement for The Sarah Jane Adventures (RIP Lis Sladen)… so where’s our new Torchwood?

  2. RedReddington says:

I’ve heard rumors that DW is going to go on a one year hiatus next year to let Capaldi direct a movie. If that’s true, then this spinoff makes a whole lot more sense.

  3. Rook says:

I’d rather have a Paternoster Gang spin off! Why didn’t that happen??? :(

  4. David4 says:

Of all the awesome characters throughout time and space they pick the most boring sounded spinoff ever.

  5. Lizo says:

So Moffat *isnt* writing it? Well it stands a chance of being good then.

    • Simon Jester says:

Oh, boo hoo. Anyone who doesn’t think the first two episodes this seasons were excellent is someone who should be watching another show.

  6. jc says:

Ohhh yay my type of show.

  7. DarkDefender says:

Sounds like a teen Torchwood. If they could swing a Capt. Jack appearance, it could be gold.

  8. readenreply says:

I’d rather see Torchwood 1890 with Madame Vestra, Jenny, strax and Capt. Jack

  9. CJ says:

Don’t mess with “The Doctor” in any way. There is nothing to fix or spinoff, it is not broken. I’ve been watching it since I was a kid. Let it alone!!!

  10. Dominic says:
