Minka Kelly The Path

Friday Night Lights Reunion: Minka Kelly Joins Jason Katims' The Path

Here’s some news that should get your pom-poms shaking: Minka Kelly is reuniting with one of the men who made her Lyla Garrity.

Kelly has joined the cast of The Path (fka The Way), an upcoming Hulu drama from Friday Night Lights executive producer Jason Katims, our sister site Deadline reports. The series, starring Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) and Michelle Monaghan (True Detective), “examines a family at the center of a controversial faith-based movement struggling with relationships, marriage and power.”

Kelly will play Miranda Frank, a member of the congregation with whom Paul’s character is suspected of having an affair.

Following her three-year stint on Friday Night Lights, Kelly went on to co-star in several short-lived dramas, including ABC’s Charlie’s Angels and Fox’s Almost Human. She also recurred on another Katims drama, NBC’s Parenthood.

Kathleen Turner (Friends) is also joining the cast as the mother of Hugh Dancy’s Cal Roberts, the group’s leader.

well after so many one and dones maybe she’ll have a shot at a stream series. Ironically another of her Charlie’s angels co stars Rachael Taylor did it and she’s on netflix’s Jessica Jones.

Enjoy Minka, thought she was real nice on Almost Human…but a show described as: “examines a family at the center of a controversial faith-based movement struggling with relationships, marriage and power.” doesn’t interest me. Family/relationships/marriage/power/religion = melodrama, cheating, lying, dysfunctional relationships, etc. Pass. That soapy stuff can stay at noon where it belongs.

If this show was being made for network TV, than I think it would be fairly safe to assume that the series would be soapy. I dont think Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan and Hugh Dancy signed on to do a soapy melodramatic network type show, my guess is it wont be. You are likely correct that there will be cheating, lying and dysfunctional relationships, those things dont necessarily equal soapy melodrama if they are done in a realistic way. Blood and Oil (ABC) for example could have been a completely different show if was being done as a serious cable drama instead of a soapy ABC show.

Minka Kelly will always be Lyla Garrity on FNL as well as Gaby on Parenthood. The cancellation of Almost Human really hurts not to mention the TV reboot of Charlie’s Angels. Does she still need acting skills to do so?

This cast is looking good. I look forward to the series.

She’s not going to win any acting awards, but she does look good doing it, pretty much like Megan Fox.

  7. Courtney says:

All this cast and Jason Katims. I still miss Parenthood.
