Andy Karl Law & Order SVU

TVLine Items: SVU Casts Benson's New No. 2, Last Ship Promotions and More

When Law & Order: SVU returns, Olivia Benson will have a new right-hand man: Broadway actor Andy Karl.

The Tony nominee will recur during the NBC procedural’s 17th season as Sgt. Mike Dodds, the son of Peter Gallagher’s Deputy Chief William Dodds. According to TVGuide.com, Mike will serve as No. 2 to Mariska Hargitay’s character, who is now acting commander at the precinct.

Though he is best known for his work in such musicals as Legally Blonde, Wicked and Rocky, Karl’s TV credits include one episode of ABC’s Forever.

Law & Order: SVU returns Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 9/8c with a two-hour premiere.

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* The Last Ship has promoted Kevin Michael Martin (as Eric Miller) and Bren Foster (as Wolf Taylor) to series regulars for Season 3, Deadline reports.

* Numb3rs vet Rob Morrow has joined Showtime’s upcoming drama Billions, premiering Sunday, Jan. 17, at 10/9c. He will appear in multiple episodes as Adam DeGiulio, the smart, powerful and highly politically aware senior advisor to the U.S. Attorney General.

* Bravo has greenlit two scripted pilots: My So-Called Wife, a dark comedy about Ava, a con artist who gets men and women to fall in love with her, marries them, then runs off with their money — until she falls in love with her latest target, and three of her last victims join forces to track her down; and True Fiction, a drama about a once best-selling novelist-turned-college professor who, after struggling with her highly anticipated follow-up book, finds a creative opportunity in the sudden death of her most arrogant and hated student.

* Mark Burnett’s wrestling series Lucha Underground — which centers on the popular Mexican sport of lucha libre — will return for a second season in early 2016, El Rey Network announced Monday.

  1. SUSO says:

Andy Karl is really cute so I’m happy to have him on SVU.

  2. David says:

I know she has been on the show since the beginning but I think Benson is more effective not in the Supervisor role. They should have brought in a new Captain or LT and had her stay on cases

    • prish says:

She has only been filling in, feeling her way around. The actress nailed that. Now, we will see her as the one in charge. Let’s give it until the end of the year, then discuss how Benson works as a Supervisor.

    • Lizo says:

I like the shift. It makes sense, in reality she would advance her career and I’m excited to see Olivia do something new and challenging. She’s such a wonderful character and role model, I think it’s great to aee

  3. Jessie says:

Why does SVU even try any more? Breaking news: another Broadway friend of Warren Leight. SHOCKING. This show is about 11 years past its expiration date.

    • prish says:

Breaking news: the husband just discovered SVU, last year, and he has seen every episode twice, since then. He’s on the edge of his seat, “Who do you think they’re going to make her partner?” I’m with you, but the show sure is still bringing in new fans.

      • It’s nice to hear that your husband likes it. Now let’s get to the truth. Has your husband been brain dead for the last 16 years, or has he been watching other things? Not watching a show for 5 or 6 years and then getting into it is one thing. This has been on for 16 years. Maybe your husband had a life?

  4. Emily says:

I enjoyed Miller and Wolf on The Last Ship this season! Can’t wait until next summer!

  5. Why is Rollins still on this SHOW? Ever since she came on the show she’s been nothing but annoying and causing problems that’s why I quit watching it! Anyone else who acted like her would have been gone after a couple of show’s!!! Get rid of HER!!!

  6. DavidSask says:

Could Bravo’s 2 new pilots actually appeal to gay men and non older female? Lets hope so, as plots have potential!
