Omar Epps Takes Aim at USA Network Pilot Shooter, Opposite Ryan Phillippe

House vet Omar Epps is pulling the trigger on a series-regular role in USA Network’s Ryan Phillippe-fronted drama pilot Shooter, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Based on the 2007 big-screen hit of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg (an EP on Shooter) and the Stephen Hunter novel Point of Impact that served as its source material, the project centers on Phillippe’s Bob Lee Swagger, an off-the-grid former Marine sniper who is coaxed into action by his former commanding officer-turned-Secret Service agent Isaac Johnson (Epps) to thwart the killing of the President. Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he must call upon all the skills he acquired as a decorated Marine sharpshooter to avoid capture while hunting down and exposing the traitors who set him up.

Epps is coming off of a two-season run on ABC’s Resurrection.

The expanding, enviable Shooter ensemble also includes Emily Rios (Breaking Bad).

Stephen Levinson (Boardwalk Empire, Ballers) and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, The Real O’Neals) will serve as EPs alongside Wahlberg. The Shield‘s John Hlavin wrote the pilot and will also executive produce, while Simon Cellan Jones (Ballers) is set to direct.

Does he really have time to do a Pilot while coaching the Pittsburgh Steelers? That is some serious talent.

“Omar Epps takes aim at USA Network…” and “Omar Epps is pulling the trigger on a series-regular role…” made me think he said something terrible about the network/show and then quit. I usually appreciate these clever phrases in headlines but it sometimes gets a bit confusing.

Awesome news. I thought the character would have been a little older though, like in the movie. I can’t wait to see who they get to play Sarah Fenn.

What a coincidence they came up with it after Quantico that has practicly the same plot and was expected to be success of the season! Only why would people want two shows with the same storyline?
