Luther Season 4 First Look: Idris Elba's Anti-Hero Helps Hide a Suspect?

Don’t expect a sudden shift to by-the-book detective work when Luther returns to BBC America for Season 4.

In the following first-look photo, Idris Elba’s titular detective appears to be playing fairly rough with a possible suspect — or perhaps it’s an uncooperative witness? — gently guiding forcibly dragging him out of a building with his fancy suit jacket pulled over his head.

BBC America also offers a tease about the two-part miniseries continuation of the Emmy-nominated, London-set crime drama: “Luther’s back. Pitted against his most chilling adversary yet, haunted by the ghosts of his past and hell-bent on retribution, he’s drawn into a terrifyingly complex case that pushes him closer to the edge than he’s ever been.”

Written and created by Neil Cross and directed by Sam Miller (No Good Deed) the Luther special will also star Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Darren Boyd (Fortitude, Spy), John Heffernan (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) and Patrick Malahide (Game of Thrones), with Michael Smiley and Dermot Crowley returning as Benny Silver and DSU Martin Schenk respectively.

Wonder if Idris Elba would be the perfect choice as the first “black” James Bond.

  2. Brian says:

Wish Ruth Wilson was on this.

  3. Alice! Where is Alice! Ruth Wilson was amazing and made a great show 10x better.

    • ComeOn says:

Upvote! Luther is never at his best without Alice by his side.

Ruth Wilson is currently taping the Showtime series The Affair, so one can only assume that’s the reason why she’s not on the show this season. And I completely disagree with you that Alice was the best part of the show, she was a great part of the show but not the best part ( in my opinion).

  9. ivan says:

I guess Ruth is busy having an affair with Dominic.

  10. Miranda says:

Are they really not bringing Alice back for this? Didn’t they say that ahead of the third season but knowing full well that she is a fan favorite and just brought her back for the last episode anyway?
I don’t trust whatever they have to say regarding about Alice at this stage. I’m sure they would have made an effort to bring Ruth Wilson on for at least one episode since her chemistry with Idris Elba is ridiculous – and Luther is sadly without a partner now (RIP Ripley!)

I can’t wait for Luther to return. Best detective show on TV hands down. John Luther is no joke. And Idris would be one cool James Bond. Real Talk.

  12. Dammit, this needs to be more than 2 episodes!
