Preacher Series AMC

Preacher Ordered to Series at AMC

AMC has granted a series order to Preacher, its adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s 1990s comic, the cabler announced Wednesday.

Film star Seth Rogen, who is exec-producing the project with Evan Goldberg (This Is the End), touted the pick-up on Twitter, as well as shared a poster.

Preacher centers on Rev. Jesse Custer (played by Agent Carter‘s Dominic Cooper), a conflicted Texas minister who merges with a spiritual force called Genesis — making him more mighty than the Almighty.

Joined by his gun-toting girlfriend Tulip (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Ruth Negga) and the hard-drinking Irish vampire Cassidy (Misfits‘ Joseph Gilgun), Custer begins a violent journey across the country in search of answers from a disenfranchised God.

Lucy Griffiths (True Blood) and Ian Colletti (Rake) also star in the project, as Emily Woodrow and Eugene Root aka Arseface.

Preacher, which received a 10-episode order, is expected to debut in mid-2016.

    Good job AMC!

Oh dear, that’s not good for Halt and Catch Fire

The renewal for Turn was likely a more significant factor in the renewal decision for HACF, than AMC picking up Preacher. I really liked the second season of HACF, but I cant really blame AMC if they cancel the series based on the lower ratings for season 2 compared to the already low rated first season.

I am actually combining those two facts. I knew that if Turn got renewed that it would be a bad sign for HACF, but I was still hopeful for it while there were no news series pickups. But unfortunately, the Preacher pickup seems like the final nail in the coffin for Halt.

I have all my fingers crossed that this fairs better than Constantine did. Being on AMC will help loads.

Constantine was crap though. AMC’s shaken my faith a bit with FTWD being a gratuitous money grab and all, but I will definitely give Preacher a shot. Dominic Cooper and Ruth Negga, I would watch anything for them, lol.

This main cast though!! All amazing (comedy AND drama) actors. I wasn’t excited about another comic adaption but this is starting off good.

Cabler: “someone who cables, who puts together or fixes cables”. Not the correct word there.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Nope, cabler is regularly used as shorthand to refer to a “cable network.” But thanks for keeping us honest, “Ellinas”!
