Report: Game of Thrones Snags Borgias Vet for Pivotal Season 6 Role

Winter may be coming to Game of Thrones — but so too is Silence.

According to the Thrones community site Watchers on the Wall, Danish actor Pilou Asbæk (The Borgias) has been cast as Euron Greyjoy — uncle of Theon, er, Reek, and captain of the Silence, a ship manned entirely by crew members whose tongues he yanked out.

The one-eyed Euron is infamous for raping and plundering wherever he drops anchor — meaning it’s likely that #TeamGreyjoy t-shirts will continue to lag behind even #HouseLannister merchandise among fans of the sprawling HBO drama.

Vulture’s sources spotted Asbæk shooting what it referred to as “A Feast for Crows‘ pivotal Kingsmoot scene in Northern Ireland this week, alongside [actress] Gemma Whelan.”

Excited about Euron’s introduction? Are you familiar with any of Asbæk’s past roles? Sound off below!

He definitely looks like he could be related to Alfie Allen… but as his brother, not his uncle! This guy is WAY too young to be Euron. The only silver lining of ‘Hannibal’ getting cancelled was the idea of Mads Mikkelsen being free to play Euron, but then he had to go and get himself cast in amazing movies like Rogue One and Doctor Strange. Harrumph.

I was hoping they would skip over all the Greyjoy stuff on the show… always seemed fairly tangential to the rest of the action.

He was fantastic on Danish political drama Borgen – seems odd he’s done Borgen AND The Borgias!!!

Hm I wonder if his lips will be blue from OD-ing on shade of the evening from the warlocks of Qarth.

I wonder where this leaves us with Ian McShane, as most assumed he was playing Euron. I still believe strongly that McShane is playing Howland Reed, but we will see.

Hm they’ve talked about Randall Tarly twice in the show, so it could be a sign he’s appearing. Howland Reed appearing would be awesome but Jojen isn’t returning home like he is in the books, so I don’t know how the show would introduce him

      • Becky says:

***cut for possible spoilers,** but Bran could see Howland Reed in the weirwood flashbacks. :) With that said, he’s supposed to be pretty little, right? If they’re going by the book’s description of Crannogmen, Ian McShane would be a little big to fit in all those swampy places. I could definitely see him as Randall Tarly, though!

    • I think he may play Aeron Greyjoy. Insane cult leader/preacher is a perfict fit for McShane

“I have my voice, and the god is with me. Mine is the strength of the sea, a strength the Crow’s Eye cannot hope to withstand. The waves may break upon the mountain, yet still they come, wave upon wave, and in the end only pebbles remain where once the mountain stood. And soon even the pebbles are swept away, to be ground beneath the sea for all eternity.”

He’s from Borgen. Very good show, not sure why no American outlet or Netflix haven’t bothered to pick it up.

Pilou is one of the few Danish actors whose accent is actually more annoying in Danish than in English.
