Brides of Dracula Series

NBC Eyes Modern Brides of Dracula Drama from Greg Berlanti, Glee Vet

Because Greg Berlanti didn’t have quite enough on his plate… the prolific TV producer (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Mysteries of Laura) is teaming with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Glee) on Brides, a gothic soap drama inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula.

According to our sister site Deadline, the potential NBC series would be based on the three brides of Dracula, who appear in literature as beautiful, powerful vampire “sisters” who reside with the Count in Transylvania, seducing men before killing them.

Although the women are vanquished by Van Helsing in the source material, Brides would be a “sexy reimagining” in which the ladies survived for centuries and are now living in, of course, New York City. The project is described as a family drama about a trio of strong, diverse females and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige and legacy.

Aguirre-Sacasa will write the script for Brides, which has received a put pilot commitment at NBC — meaning it would be very expensive for the network not to greenlight it.

The wifeys in question have previously appeared in many film adaptations, including the 1992 flick Bram Stoker’s Dracula (pictured) and 2004’s Van Helsing.

    Berlanti never stops going.

  2. nabocane says:

They’ll never live up to the Coppola brides (pictured). Especially not in some supernatural ‘Sex in the City’ knockoff.

  3. Dennis says:

Ummmmm…. What? Lmfao this idea is SO ridiculous it might actually work!!

  4. DL says:

No, please, no, God, just please, no. Didn’t NBC learn their lesson with their previous Dracula series?

  5. dan says:

Dang, that’s Monica Bellucci in the picture above.

  6. Lauren says:

NBC had their chance at Dracula. It sucked.

  7. Slowride says:

    SO Desperate Housewives of Transylvania?!

  8. Brian says:

I have no idea what NBC is doing. Dracula gets canceled, then they make this so soon after.

Also, that’s picture is more NSFW than I’m used to seeing on this site.

  9. Et al. says:

This will follow nbc’s patented ‘straight to cancelation’ business model (see: Coach, Emerald City).

  10. Melissa says:

They cancel Hannibal, which is arguably one of the best shows, and pursue a vampire soap opera. Greaaaaaaaaat.

  11. Roger says:

Would love to see Katie McGrath play one of the vampires.

  12. AngelWasHere says:

I love vampire shows and I need one since True Blood was put out of it’s misery, but I’m not sure about this. If it could be a vampire version of Charmed maybe, but this could go really badly much like Dracula.

  13. Television says:

    This sounds stupid.
