Spartan Race: NBC Announces Plans for New Competition Series

The network that brought us American Ninja Warrior is back on the hunt for more super-humans.

NBC on Wednesday announced that it’s teaming up with Spartan Race — an intense, obstacle-based competition currently held in more than 20 countries — and the producers behind ANJ for a new series, tentatively titled Spartan Race, which will test “mental and physical limits, as well as determination, endurance and teamwork.” (Anybody else feel lazy just reading that?)

Spartan Race, which is now seeking applicants at www.spartancasting.com, is described as follows:

Friends, families and co-workers must work together and push each other to their mental and physical limits as they race across specially designed Spartan courses engineered to test their determination, endurance, and will. Teams of five — comprised of two men, two women, and an elite Spartan athlete — will battle over mud, water, and fire for a chance to win a large cash prize.

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to face the race? Or at least watch it? Drop a comment with your thoughts on Spartan Race below.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

Could be cool, but it would be nice if someone could first beat (or even get to the end of) ANW before they go creating more obstacle-competition shows.

It’s like ANJ meets Gladiator with a mix of GoT in between.
