Chicago Med Adds Jane the Virgin's Rachel DiPillo as Series Regular

The next generation of doctors is scrubbing into Chicago Med.

Rachel DiPillo (Jane the Virgin) has joined the Chicago Fire spinoff in the series-regular role of intern Dr. Sarah Reese, TVLine has learned.

Dr. Reese is fresh out of medical school and “comes in with a lot of confidence because she’s been straight-A, super-proficient, accomplished at everything,” executive producer Andrew Dettmann tells TVLine. “But everything has been book knowledge until know. She’s hit that spot that first-year interns have to go through. Now they have real cases that they have to handle. She may be in a little over her head.”

DiPillo — who most recently starred in NBC’s Cuckoo pilot — is the latest cast addition following the departure of Laurie Holden, who played an ER surgeon in the backdoor pilot and recently announced she is leaving the show. Torrey DeVitto (Pretty Little Liars) was added to the ensemble earlier this week, as pregnant ER pediatrician Dr. Lilly Manning.

Chicago Med premieres Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 10/9c on NBC.

  1. Mr. Tran K says:

Still no word yet whether or not which actress will replace the role left out by Laurie Holden.

    • Steven says:

Neither role is really a replacement. I wasn’t a fan of her on Jane the Virgin, but we weren’t really supposed to I guess.

      • johnhelvete says:

I thought she was pretty good on JTV. At first she had to somewhat appealing as a potential friend for Jane, and than after the reveal, she had to play a rival for Michael and being underhanded, the actress seemed to pull both things off.

    • Zerb says:

Her role isn’t being replaced in regards to a recast. The character just won’t be on the show.

  2. Lauren says:

‘Sarah Reese’ makes me think of Terminator. She was good on JTV, I’ll be checking this out anyway since I want a new medical show and loooove Colin Donnell, so happy to see her join the cast.
