Modern Family Casts Its 'New' Joe

Meet the new Fulgencio — definitely not the same as the old Fulgencio.

As TVLine reported last month, Modern Family is recasting the now-series regular role of Fulgencio “Joe” Pritchett — played for the past two seasons by Pierce Wallace.

His onscreen mother Sofia Vergara unveiled the identity of the “new” Joe — actor Jeremy Maguire, who celebrates his fourth birthday on Aug. 10 — in an Instagram post Friday morning.

Producers sought the recast as Joe will be newly “rough and tumble” — AKA the yin to evolved older brother Manny’s yang — sources told TVLine’s Michael Ausiello in July.

The move is not unprecedented for the ABC smash. At the start of Season 3, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons assumed the role of Mitch and Cam’s daughter, Lily, from young twins Ella and Jaden Hiller.

Modern Family‘s seventh season bows Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c.
