Carla Gugino Roadies

Scoop: Carla Gugino Joins Showtime's Cameron Crowe Pilot Roadies, Replacing Christina Hendricks

Carla Gugino is with the band, having boarded Showtime’s Roadies pilot from Academy Award winner Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous).

Roadies follows the day-to-day life of a successful rock tour as seen through the eyes of music’s unsung heroes — the crew members who get the show on the road. Gugino will play the band’s production manager Shelli, a world-class multi-tasker, passionate music fan and tireless work partner to the band’s tour manager (Old School‘s Luke Wilson). The duo’s unique personal and professional relationship is forever crashing and colliding as they guide the daily events of the band and crew of roadies.

Shelli was originally to be played by Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks, but the character ultimately was entirely reconceived — “a complete revamp,” say sources, resulting in a recasting. Hendricks thus went on to join the 1980s-themed Sundance drama Hap and Leonard.

The Roadies cast also includes Imogen Poots (The Look of Love), Rafe Spall (One Day), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), Peter Cambor (NCIS: Los Angeles) and Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly (Beyond the Lights).

Crowe wrote and will direct the pilot, while Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life) will serve as showrunner if the comedy goes to series.

In addition to her recent runs on Fox’s Wayward Pines and HBO’s The Brink, Gugino’s TV credits includes New Girl, Political Animals, Californication, Justified and Karen Sisco.

So does this mean her character in The Brink won’t be back for S2? I guess they could say she died happy from numerous encounters with Billy’s third leg.

Still feel sad every time Political Animals is mentioned and I remember it only ran for mere 6 episodes.

  3. Tony Lang says:

Didn’t need much more convincing, but now I’m DEFINITELY on board.

Carla Gugino is gold everyday of the week for me. She’s been on so many great, short-lived series(Political Animals, Karen Sisco, even Threshold) and she’s just so damn good in everything.
