Castle Season 8: Ann Cusack Cast as Mystery Woman With Ties to [Spoiler]

Private Practice alum Ann Cusack has landed a provocative guest-starring role in Castle‘s Season 8 premiere.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the actress will appear in the second half of the two-part season opener as Rita, a member of a top-secret organization who drops into Beckett’s life with a unique set of skills… and an unexpected connection to Castle.

In addition to her Private Practice arc as the wife of Addison’s mother Bizzy, Cusack’s recent TV credits include episodes of Backstrom, Masters of Sex, Scandal and Hart of Dixie.

Previously this summer, Castle added Toks Olagundoye (The Neighbors) in the series regular role of onetime Scotland Yard officer Hayley Vargas, while Sunkrish Bala (The Walking Dead) will recur as a high-strung tech analyst.

Castle opens its eighth season on Monday, Sept. 21.

Unexpected connection… aunt would be too lame, so….?
I am intrigued by what skills she may possess and how that impacts the story. Interesting also that she drops into Beckett’s life, not Beckett and Castle’s lives…

  2. aph1976 says:

This keeps reinforcing my theory that Beckett, Esposito and Ryan could be transferred to some kind of task force and that could explain the 2 new characters who could be part of the task force also.As for her connection to Castle i’m thinking a relative of his from his father’s side. She could be his aunt

    • Beckstle says:

A task force is what I’ve been hoping for as well. That would be a perfect fit for Beckett and keep Castle working with her! Also, what if Castle’s father has gone rouge – like terrorism rouge, and that’s why he was kidnapped. They set up the false marriage license for Beckett to separate her from him. (Let’s face it, they’d never get him with her around and those two were glued to each other at that point). The reason for the kidnapping? They needed to use him as a bargaining chip. The agency is…B613 – leading to a Castle/Scandal crossover. Now, there’s some drama! :D

  3. Court says:

She’s too old to be an ex of Castle so I’m thinking that she could possibly be his long lost sister or his aunt on his dad’s side. I wonder what her profession is that shows Beckett her unique set of skills.

  4. thisismenow says:

She’s an incredible actress, so I for one am stoked!

  5. Matt says:

Castles former wife or lover who he researched for a book

  6. lkh says:

Seems like there is a tendency toward a secret organization, and/or outside law enforcement folks, and new techie type(job similar to the one in Dreamworld. Sounds a bit like something to do with dear ol’ dad or perhaps the FBI, and/or British types from previous seasons. If Dad’s involved probably international and CIA. Dunno. Interesting that Beckett is the one who gets involved. Castle’s connection to this world is either Dad or the agent killed in Linchpin.

Back to XX and XY–maybe someone’s relative–perhaps as suggested, a half relative of Castle.

  7. lame says:

Will these people have something to do with the disappearance of Victoria Gates. Further complicating Castle and Beckett’s search for answers.

  8. Moochiecat says:

Good Lord, Aunt Teresa is a member of the CIA! LOL! ;)

    • DarkDefender says:

it totally fits.. her and her rogue facebook posts.

      • Disappointed says:

I think it is obvious that she is actually Castle’s Dad, who has undergone a sex change because his original identity was too compromised, and they couldn’t use Brolin again after he made some unfriendly comments after his last appearance, plus Babs put her foot down. LOL

  9. lame says:

Provocative, really? How about a half sister. Jackson Hunt got around.

    • Barry says:

I think that makes sense — a half-sister from another mother who Rick doesn’t know existed. And if we’re lucky, she’s pure evil.

    • DarkDefender says:

I would love that. Half-sister who is maybe not evil, but has skills, because daddy Hunt spent time with her growing up and not Rick.. And they are similar age. That will burn and give us some nice Castle angst without any Casketty angst.

  10. Jerri says:

    a former Mother-in-Law?

  11. DarkDefender says:

Stepmother.. Maybe daddy is a bigger liar than we thought?

  12. Blurgh says:

Why DO things have to change? They just got married! Can’t we see more of how they handle domestic bliss with the demands of Kate now being captain instead of breaking them up right away?
I hate the stupid, as I call it, Ross and Rachel tv formula where couples timidly head toward coupledom only to break up and then get back together and then break up. It’s so stupid, and it isn’t reflective of real life. I’d love to see a TV relationship where a couple actually stays together and navigates the adventures of that. I’m sure there’s still plenty of drama to be had.
