Modern Family Recast Twist: Jay and Gloria's Son Getting 'Rough and Tumble' Makeover in Season 7

Modern Family is giving Jay and Gloria’s young son a makeover in Season 7.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the ABC smash is recasting the now-series regular role of Joe Pritchett — played for the past two seasons by Pierce Wallace — with a slightly older actor.

Modern Family RecastA Family rep declined to comment, but I’m told producers are currently scouring Hollywood for a 4-year-old actor to portray Jay and Gloria’s newly “rough and tumble” son — AKA the ying to evolved older brother Manny’s yang.

This isn’t the first Modern Family kid to rapidly age between seasons. At the start of Season 3, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons assumed the role of Mitch and Cam’s daughter, Lily, from young twins Ella and Jaden Hiller.

Modern Family‘s seventh season bows Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c.

It worked with Lily who IMO is one the best part of the show

I’m gonna hold out judgment. A lot (and I mean A LOT) of people thought it was gonna be the biggest mistake the show could ever make when they did this with Lily at the start of season 3. However, while it took a few episodes to get used to, that was 100% the right decision. She integrated really well and has provided some of the funniest moments from the last few seasons. So I’m not gonna make any comments on this choice until I give it a chance. We’ll see how it works out by mid-season.

Sweet. I hope for nore scenes between Jay and the kid, they pretty much neglected him as a storyline.

  7. wjm980 says:

Now if they would just recast Lily. The “actress” that “plays” her has gone from bad to worse.

Damn 7 seasons where have I been

Hmmm, the next thing ya know, they’ll want to change Joe’s name to Darrin. That’s where I’ll have to draw the line. ;)

  10. Cisco says:

The last few episodes of last season were full of silly dialogue and plots with no character insight. The first of this new season continued that trend. Nothing but silly gags punctuating silly scenes. Scripts used to be so filled with smart repartee. I’l give it 1 more week, but the shark is swimming nearby.

The kids who play really and Luke suck as actors
